Self-Advocate Opinions Wanted!

 

The Arc of Colorado’s Achieve With Us Film Festival in downtown Denver is just around the corner, on March 15. It’s a time to celebrate abilities and achievements by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through exceptional films. Someone extraordinary has been hired to create a unique film especially for this festival. Sam Laurence, film maker and young man with autism, is on the task, but he needs the help of his fellow self-advocates (people with I/DD who speak for themselves). 

If you are a self-advocate, Sam is requesting your honest opinions in order to make his film truly authentic. Please CLICK HERE to see a short video from Sam, and to answer his questions online. Last Information Night for Parents of Students with Intellectual Disabilities

Night 3 - Why Jeffco Asks for Cognitive Assessments: Cognitive testing, alternate assessment, extended evidence outcomes (EEO's) and modifications.

Time: Join at 5:30 PM for pizza, salad, and networking followed by interactive learning from 6 to 7:30 PM.

College Living Experience Denver -Summer Exploration Info Webinar

Over the years, College Living Experience (CLE) Denver Summer Exploration has seen hundreds of students walk through their doors. For the first time, each student is experiencing what life in college may feel like from a perspective like no other ... their own. From developing new friendships, to living in dorms, and learning how to navigate area transportation, students come alongside their peers to learn more about the opportunities that are possible for their own life story.

Home-Modification Tax Program Launched by State

Colorado residents who need to make modificaitons to their homes for health or safety reasons may qualify for the newly launched Home Modificaiton Tax Credit Program.

The Income Tax Credit for Retrofitting Home for Health Bill (HB18-1267) became effective January 1. The vision of the new law is that those with an illness or disability be able to modify their homes without having to worry about financial constraints, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.

HB18-1267 created a state income tax credit, up to $5,000 per qualified individual per year, available tax years 2019 through 2023 for eligible costs incurred while retrofitting a residence.
