Get Ready for National Disability Voter Registration Week!

Did you know the voter turnout rate for people with disabilities is 6 percent lower than that of people without disabilities? Let’s work to change that! Each year, the REV UP campaign, through the American Association for People with Disabilities, organizes National Disability Voter Registration Week to promote registration and civic engagement among people with disabilities.

This year’s campaign is J uly 15-19. So — are you ready to get involved and increase our community’s voting power?

Here are a few easy ways:
  • Make sure YOU are registered to vote
  • Encourage your friends and family to register!
  • Find out if your local chapter of The Arc is hosting any events during the week that you can support.
  • Spread the word on social media by sharing this post during the week: “Are you registered to vote? Support National Disability Voter Registration Week by registering today at vote.gov! #REVUP”
Empowering People with Disabilities to Make Their Own Health Care Decisions

People with disabilities sometimes need help understanding medical information. That does not mean they need a guardian to make decisions for them. People with disabilities can make their own decisions with support. They can ask for help from family members, friends and other trusted persons (called “Supporters”).

The Arc’s new tool, A Letter for My Doctors, helps people with disabilities describe how and when they want help making health care decisions.

The letter can be used to explain:
  • How the person acts when he/she is upset, worried, or confused
  • What a health care provider can do if the person is upset, worried, or confused
  • When the person wants help making health care decisions
  • Who the person wants to help them make health care decisions

Can you or someone you know benefit from this new tool? Download the resource now
