Open Doors to Independence with Travel Training

Travel Training is the perfect place to address your concerns about trying, or maybe retrying, public transportation. Via & RTD Travel Trainers understand the reality of public transportation for people with I/DD, and they have been helping people learn about it for years. They also offer free individual travel training, during which travel trainers work one-on-one with a trainee for as long as it takes to insure safe, independent travel. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities, family members and caregivers are welcome to attend this intro Travel Training.

When: Wednesday, May 29 from 10 AM - 12:30 PM
Where: The Arc – JCCG office: 13949 W Colfax Ave, Bldg 1, Suite 150, Lakewood, CO 80401

*Lunch will be included

1. Presentation starts at 10:00 AM
2. Next, we board an out-of-service RTD bus reserved just for our group, and we go through the same steps that riders take on in-service buses.
3. We will ride the bus to a Light Rail station, where we board and travel by Light Rail.
4. Lastly, we ride by bus back to The Arc for lunch starting between 12:00 and 12:30 PM.
5. All along the way you can get answers to your questions from the expert at RTD.

Space is limited. Please RSVP by Tuesday, May 28. Please email [email protected] or call (303) 232-1338 to RSVP.

“Thank you so much for running the Travel Training! We were fortunate enough to have Dan work with our kids and he trained them on everything they need to know to be successful getting to their jobs and back home!” -- Karen B.

Junk Your Jalopy and Raise Money for The Arc!

Is it time to finally let go of your old car? We know, you had a good run. You got far more mileage out of it than you thought you would. It was a good car right up until the end. But now the necessary repairs to get it back on the road just don’t make financial sense and it’s not worth nearly as much as you thought it might be as a trade-in. It’s time.

Don’t worry. Your old car is still valuable … in fact, it’s worth the world to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). You see, The Arc can take your old car as a donation and turn it into cash to directly help people with I/DD with such needs as employment, education, housing and advocacy to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.

The Arc doesn’t care if your old car has some blemishes, a little rust, a dead battery or worse. Vehicles for Charity can take your clunker and turn it into cash at auction. To ensure your donation benefits our chapter, simply designate The Arc - Jefferson, Clear Creek & Gilpin Counties as the recipient, and the proceeds will come directly to us.

It’s easy to get started. Donate online or call 1-866-628-CARS, arrange your free pickup, and claim your tax deduction. To donate and for more information, click here
