Join The Arc’s staff, board, and supporters for festive food, live music, and plenty of holiday cheer! Stop by to say hello, meet new people, reconnect with old friends and see what we’ve been up to this year. The open house will be held at The Arc’s office located at 13949 W. Colfax Ave, Bldg 1, Suite 150 in Lakewood on Monday, December 10 from 4 to 7 PM.

To honor the tradition of holiday giving, each year we provide a unique opportunity for our guests to donate gift cards at the holiday party. The Arc distributes a variety of gift cards to the people we support and the volunteers who support us. Please consider bringing with you a gift card of any value for groceries, household goods, gas, movies or clothing. There will be a wrapped “deposit” box at the check-in table where you can drop off your gift card donation.

To ensure we have sufficient amounts of food and holiday cheer, please be sure to RSVP by November 30 by clicking here, calling (303) 232-1338, or by emailing us at [email protected]. See you in December!

Applications Now Open for 6 PAID Fellowships for Self-Advocates!
What is a Fellowship?

A fellowship is a one-year project. You design a project that:
• Is about self-advocacy
• Helps solve problems that many people have

Fellows work on their projects about 6 hours each week. The Self Advocacy Resource and Technical Assistance Center (SARTAC) will pay Fellows $5,000 to complete their projects. Find an organization near you to work with you on your project. Your project must end with a report or products others can use. Six Fellows will be chosen this year. This is the 3rd year SARTAC has had Fellowships.

Deadline to apply: Thursday, December 20, 2018 by 6 PM (Mountain Standard Time)

Family Perspectives on Engaging with Adult Support Services Research Study
Are you willing to share your perspective on engaging with adult support services? If so, you should consider participating in the “Family Perspectives on Engaging with Adult Support Services” research study!

The purpose of this study is to understand the factors that influence parents/guardians of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to access Medicaid Waivers for their family member.

The study is being conducted by the sister of an adult with Down syndrome. Because of her family’s experience, she is interested to learn about the experiences other families have encountered when accessing Medicaid Waivers.

If you decide to participate in this study, the researcher will schedule an interview at a time convenient for your schedule. Completing the interview will take approximately thirty minutes to one hour of your time. Although participating will not benefit you directly, this study will provide the field with valuable information about supporting families as they engage with adult support agencies.

If you have any questions about the study or if you are interested in participating, please email Sarah R. Carlson at [email protected].
Junk Your Jalopy and Raise Money for The Arc!
Is it time to finally let go of your old car? We know, you had a good run. You got far more mileage out of it than you thought you would. It was a good car right up until the end. But now the necessary repairs to get it back on the road just don’t make financial sense and it’s not worth nearly as much as you thought it might be as a trade-in. It’s time.

Don’t worry. Your old car is still valuable … in fact, it’s worth the world to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). You see, The Arc can take your old car as a donation and turn it into cash to directly help people with I/DD with such needs as employment, education, housing and advocacy to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.

The Arc doesn’t care if your old car has some blemishes, a little rust, a dead battery or worse. Vehicles for Charity can take your clunker and turn it into cash at auction. To ensure your donation benefits our chapter, simply designate The Arc - Jefferson, Clear Creek & Gilpin Counties as the recipient, and the proceeds will come directly to us.

It’s easy to get started. Donate online or call 1-866-628-CARS, arrange your free pickup, and claim your tax deduction. To donate and for more information, click here.
