Future Planning: It's Possible and Necessary

Future planning is creating a guide for a person with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) to lead a good life as independently as possible. Planning for the future—after a parent or caregiver is no longer able to provide support—is important and possible for all families.

Do you know what a future plan looks like?

The Arc’s Center for Future Planning offers free resources to help self-advocates, families, professionals and others tackle all aspects of future planning, including housing, finances, employment, support services and more.

As you start to think about what a plan might look like or how you can help others plan, we encourage you to explore the following resources:

When you’re ready to start building a plan, use The Arc's free tool, which will guide you through each step of the process.
Open Doors to Independence with Travel Training

Travel Training is the perfect place to address your concerns about trying, or maybe retrying, public transportation. Via & RTD Travel Trainers understand the reality of public transportation for people with I/DD, and they have been helping people learn about it for years. They also offer free individual travel training, during which travel trainers work one-on-one with a trainee for as long as it takes to insure safe, independent travel. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities, family members and caregivers are welcome to attend this intro Travel Training.

Hey Lucky's Market Shoppers!

Did you know that right now you can support The Arc while grocery shopping? That's right, at Lucky's Market on Wadsworth!

From now through November 9th, we’re one of three Lucky's Market Bags for Change partners.

All you need to do is bring your reusable grocery bags and at checkout the cashier will give you a wooden dime for each. Before leaving the store you’ll see the Bags for Change display (pictured). Just drop your dimes in the slot with our name. Then, in November, Lucky’s Market will add up what the community has donated, and make a donation to us for double the amount!

Be sure to stop by Lucky's Market, and don't forget to bring your bags!
Junk Your Jalopy and Raise Money for The Arc!

Is it time to finally let go of your old car? We know, you had a good run. You got far more mileage out of it than you thought you would. It was a good car right up until the end. But now the necessary repairs to get it back on the road just don’t make financial sense and it’s not worth nearly as much as you thought it might be as a trade-in. It’s time.

Don’t worry. Your old car is still valuable … in fact, it’s worth the world to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). You see, The Arc can take your old car as a donation and turn it into cash to directly help people with I/DD with such needs as employment, education, housing and advocacy to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.

The Arc doesn’t care if your old car has some blemishes, a little rust, a dead battery or worse. Vehicles for Charity can take your clunker and turn it into cash at auction. To ensure your donation benefits our chapter, simply designate The Arc - Jefferson, Clear Creek & Gilpin Counties as the recipient, and the proceeds will come directly to us.

It’s easy to get started. Donate online or call 1-866-628-CARS, arrange your free pickup, and claim your tax deduction. To donate and for more information, click here .
