PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
After completion of a program statement, it was determined that deficiencies warranted the demolition of the existing Press Box at Wayne State College and replace it with a new state of the art press box. Early in the programming phase, JJA visited the facility on a game day to observe the staff, student and public use, and existing facilities to better understand the functional needs. Time was spent watching the interaction of the occupants, seeing how the space was utilized and talking with all involved, including the former president, NATS technology staff, media, faculty, food service staff and students of the broadcasting department. These observations afforded our team a thorough understanding of expected uses to better design the new Press Box. The 6,600 sq. ft. facility is a 3-story structure with an additional 2-story service tower for integration of computer stations, radio booths, spaces for press, coaches and officials, as well as a lounge space for spectators. The new Press Box also includes new HVAC systems, which was lacking in the demolished 40-year-old facility. The new facilities will accommodate college athletic and academic activities throughout the year, including broadcast classes, team meetings, recruiting and fundraising events, while serving the current and future needs of the college and community.
Jackson - Jackson & Associates, Inc., recently teamed up with the Nebraska State Historical Society to improve accessibility to the Fort Robinson Museum, located just outside of Crawford, Nebraska. The museum was originally an Army post headquarters that was built in 1873 and played a pivotal role in taming the west. In 1956, the Nebraska State Historical Society acquired the building and turned it into a museum to commemorate its history.

The main components of this project included adding a ramp up to the front porch, installing new composite decking on the porches, and upgrading the restroom to be ADA compliant. The foundation of the ramp, although just poured concrete, was designed to mimic the stone foundation of the existing building. JJA worked with the Society on the design of the handrail, which replicates an existing handrail at Fort Robinson, but incorporates recessed LED lighting meeting code requirements, while providing a safety feature at night. The project was completed in June 2018.
