Every day, pick two projects and make sure they are defined: How will you know when this is done? What are your criteria for satisfaction? What are the major steps? What are the urgency, impact, and effort? The few minutes you spend answering these questions will save more effort than you can imagine. In Arena, you can answer these questions in each project's checklist and, for the last question, select the Urgency, Impact, and Effort.
Weekly Reading and Book Recommendations
- "Getting Things Done: Defining Projects Effectively" by Sebastian Günther (2016). Günther breaks project definition into four steps: Adding the project title, adding the description, defining milestones, and adding actions regularly. For more, visit Medium.
- “7 Ways You Can Finish a Big Project Super Fast" by Kevin Daum (2015). Two steps in Daum's approach are both helpful and rarely-round: "Get rid of your judgment" (#5) and "Pause and review" (#6). For more, visit Inc.
- Book recommendation: Getting Things Done by David Allen (2015, 2nd edition). This book is for you if you’ve heard about, thought about, or tried "Getting Things Done." Thinking about work, and capturing all of the open loops, is invaluable.
