The Land Trust's eighth 1% Wednesday Industry Grouping highlights our dedicated Pennies for Preservation art galleries. In addition to inspiring us with beautiful artwork from nationally known artists, these businesses -- both of which are locally owned! -- are helping to preserve and protect more than 70 acres of maritime forest and important habitat at Oatland North on the north-end of St. Simons Island.
Our Pennies for Preservation ART GALLERY partners include:

"Our clients love donating to the Land Trust's Pennies for Preservation program. Where might we be without the Land Trust? They protect the scenic beauty of our island that our artists and students love to paint. We are very lucky to be representing artists who appreciate and capture the beauty of our marshes, beaches, and especially the live oaks with Spanish moss.”

THE GALLERY ON NEWCASTLE
Janet Powers, artist and owner of The Gallery on Newcastle, and her husband were attracted to the 100 miles of coastal Georgia and moved to the Golden Isles 20 years ago. Janet has painted the spirit and beauty of the local marsh scenes ever since.

Located in historic downtown Brunswick The Gallery on Newcastle showcases the artwork of Janet Powers, that includes mixed media and collage on fabric and paper along with her fascinating and unique three-dimensional "assemblages" as well as lush oil landscapes of the local salt marsh, shorelines, and streams of Coastal Georgia. Rather than just documenting the landscapes as they are, Janet's paintings are meant to portray a mood. Therefore, she uses a somewhat monochromatic color scheme and purposefully keeps the values close in range so as to not distract from the mood.

The Gallery on Newcastle showcases these pieces of fine art and hosts one of the area's finest collections of fine art in an atmosphere of casual warmth and old world charm. It is a 'must see!'

"The salt marshes are animated and alive, teeming with many different types of birds and wildlife. The light and colors in the sky are constantly changing along with the ebb and flow of the tides. Minutes before the sun sets and for a short while after the marsh grass takes on shades of glorious warm glows. I think this is the reason for the name the Golden Isles. The whole ecosystem here is so amazing and special that I hope to do whatever I can to retain the natural health and beauty, and therefore my desire to promote and help such a giving organization as St. Simons Land Trust."
