Today we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus. The word ascension means "going up." In this story, Jesus goes up to heaven to be with God. After his resurrection, Jesus spent 40 days with his disciples explaining to them why it was important for him to be crucified and raised from the dead. He tells them to wait for the Holy Spirit and then to go out into the world spreading the good news of Jesus.
Watch the video above to hear the story of Jesus returning to heaven. Use the following questions from Children's Chapel leader Brett Rutledge to guide a discussion of the story:
- What is the disciple Thomas know for? (Hint: We learned about him the week after Easter.)
- Why was it hard for Thomas to believe that he knew the way?
- What promise did Jesus make to the disciples?
