“Where there is no vision, the people perish….” -
Proverbs 29:18
Solomon was very wise and much of his wisdom was written and is recorded in the Book of Proverbs. The 18th verse of the 29th chapter of Proverbs tells us,
“Where there is no vision, the people perish….”
I interpret that to mean when we don’t know where we’re going or how to get there, our purpose for existing will not be realized. Vision is so very important to the mission of the Church. I am pleased to know Aldersgate UMC has done the work of recognizing and embracing our Mission, the reason we exist, and our Vision, the ways we will commit to accomplishing our purpose.
The Mission of the Aldersgate UMC is,
To be a loving and inclusive family of believers who proclaim the good news of Christ through worship, prayer, fellowship, education and mission, leading to transformation of lives.
The reason we exist as a church is so that we can be loving and inclusive, spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, and transform lives. That is a great mission! It is right in line with what I believe Jesus set as the mission of all believers when He said,
“Go...and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Our mission is also right in line with what our denomination has determined is the reason we exist,
“To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
We have a great, Godly mission and I am grateful for that. I hope you are too.
The Vision of the Aldersgate UMC is,
Growing together through our ministry with all people, spreading joy, promoting peace, reducing suffering and restoring hope through our faith in Jesus Christ.
These are the ways we are committed to living into our purpose as a church. So, basically, the way our Mission and Vision work together is:
We exist
to be a loving and inclusive family of believers who proclaim the good news of Christ through worship, prayer, fellowship, education and mission, leading to transformation of lives.
We are committed to living into that purpose by
growing together through our ministry with all people, spreading joy, promoting peace, reducing suffering and restoring hope through our faith in Jesus Christ.
I am so grateful to the leadership of our church and to everyone who helped them accomplish the work of developing the mission and vision. The process has given us direction as a church and I am excited to move in that direction with all of you. A key component in that movement is not only knowledge and recognition of the Mission and Vision, but also buy in on the part of the whole church. I want to encourage you to work on that through the month of August; memorize the statements, pray about your part in them, and seek to understand how we as a congregation, and you as a follower of Jesus, can get serious about our mission and vision and get busy accomplishing them to the glory of God..
Thank you for being the Aldersgate UMC and thank you for welcoming my family and me into the community.
Blessings!
Pastor Jim

In reaching these advanced ages, does it increase our chances of having dementia or Alzheimer’s? Dr. Doug Hatler, family practice physician, will address these questions and others relating to the aging process when he speaks Sunday as part of the Summer Speaker Series.

On behalf of the entire Woodruff family, we would like to thank our Aldersgate family for all of the sympathy cards and kind words of encouragement and support following the passing of our mother and grandmother. It is during these difficult times that you realize how wonderful, caring, and loving the Aldersgate family is and how important everyone is to us. We love you all.
Sincerely, Bruce, Lesa, Kayla, and Haley

Dear Members and Friends of Aldersgate UMC,
For the young men and women who come to the United Methodist Youth Home, the hope and healing are all because of you. Thank you so much for your generous donation of $200.
Your kindness is helping make hope, healing, and recovery possible for the young men and women who come to UMYH. You're helping give these troubled teens the support, structure, education, and love they need to become responsible and productive members of the community.
In 2017, a record 20 young men and women earned their TASC (formerly GED), construction began on the Holder Home for Boys so we can serve more and turn away fewer young men, and the Independent Living team grew so we can better prepare the youth with the soft skills they need to thrive.
Thank you again- your support means so much and makes a world of difference in the lives of Indiana's troubled youth.
Blessings, Travis Jourdan
