BASIS Chandler Band and Orchestra

BASIS Chandler had a total of five band and orchestra students make it into All State! Congratulations to Daniel J., Aiden M., Brandon L., Hiyun L., and Shea L. All of our seniors and Daniel were selected to play principal roles in the orchestra with each one getting a solo part. Our seniors were also honored with a special 3-year membership award for making it into the All State festival each year that it was held. Pictured above is Aiden M., playing a featured solo at the Phoenix Symphony Side-by-Side Concert. What a terrific event!

BASIS Chandler Speech & Debate

BASIS Chandler’s Speech and Debate program has ended its regular season, and students who qualified will be attending post-season championship events soon.

Raiyan C. and Arjun C. qualified to compete at the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament to be hosted here in the East Valley in June. The tournament is the oldest and most prestigious speech and debate championship in the United States and draws thousands of qualified entrants from around the world each year. They won the honor by placing second at the Arizona District Qualifier, held at Mountain View High School in Mesa March 30-April 1.

Raiyan C. is a senior and has been debating in the Public Forum event for three years. This will be his third time competing at Nationals, having entered in Extemporaneous Debate two years ago and in Public Forum last year.

Arjun C. is a junior who is new to Speech and Debate this year, but caught on quickly as Raiyan’s partner in Public Forum.

The pair also qualified to compete in the University of Kentucky’s Tournament of Champions in Louisville April 14-17.

9th grader Aarna D. will also be competing at TOC in the Original Oratory event. Competitors qualify for TOC by winning top places at large invitational tournaments throughout the season.
