This week US News & World Report released the rankings of the best high schools in the nation, and BASIS Chandler is the #1 high school in the state of Arizona for the third year in a row. BASIS Chandler is also the #11 high school in the nation, the #2 charter school in the nation, and the #4 STEM school in the nation. Girls Varsity Volleyball
Interested in Girls Varsity volleyball in the fall? Please complete the sign-up sheet near Mr. Bostaph's room 206 to receive information over the summer about open gym days before school starts. This will be open to all 8th - 12th-grade girls. Girls Varsity volleyball tryouts will begin on the second day of school in August. Make sure to get your physical and all sport-related forms completed prior to tryouts.

5th-Grade Field Trips Parent Permission Forms Are Due Monday
Parent permission forms for the May 5th-grade field trips are due Monday, May 2nd in order for your student to participate. Please fill out the attached form and have your student bring a printed copy to their study hall class. Please note that the field trip fee will not be placed automatically onto your Smart for Charters account once the permission form is returned. Families must purchase the fee through the Smart for Charters Shopping Cart. A signed permission form and payment for the Smart for Charters fee are required for students to attend the field trips.
These field trips are planned to supplement the academic program by providing students with an opportunity to think creatively, study art, and connect with fellow students. Please note that participation is optional and a free, on-campus, activity with similar academic content is available if you choose not to participate. Financial aid is available for qualifying students who are interested in participating in the field trips.

Battle of the Books Club
On Wednesday, the BASIS Chandler team (Raashi T., Shireen A., and Srinidhi P., pictured) competed with eight other local school teams in the District Finals round of Battle of the Books. The team showed super school spirit and excellent knowledge of the twelve books they'd read this year. Way to go, Bobcats!

Push-Up Challenge
This past week several classes took part in the 3rd annual Push-Up Challenge at school. With over 150 students and teachers participating, a grand total of 19,237 push-ups were completed! A person lifts approximately 64% of their body weight doing a push-up and with an average weight of 140lbs, that would mean the school lifted 1,723,635 lbs. Congratulations to all those who participated, and we hope they were not sore for too long.

Valley Fever Poster Contest
Congratulations to Hiyun and Shea L. for both winning their respective sections in the Valley Fever Poster Contest. On top of each winning their section, they tied for second place overall in the competition! Their posters will be available for viewing soon through this link.

Last Day of School for the 2021-2022 Academic Year
Please note that the last day of this school year is Thursday, May 26th. Term Projects will be held for the final five days of school (May 20-26). Students will report to the classroom their Term Project is assigned as specified in the Term Project Catalog.

Class of 2022 Results
Final decisions are coming in, and our Class of 2022 is doing great! To date, they have received 323 acceptances at 94 different colleges and universities. As matriculation deadlines approach, we have 42 students committed to colleges so far (see the * symbols in the list below).
Based on student reporting, scholarship results to date include
• Over $4.74 million in merit based aid, including over $1.8 million in ASU merit aid and over $1.7 million in U of A merit aid.
• 50% of the class (45 students) were National Merit Commended
• 42% of those Commended (19 students/21% of the class) transitioned to National Merit FINALSTS! Our congratulations to all!
• Congratulations to Ella W. She won a Coca-Cola scholarship! She also earned Finalist status and a scholarship in the Regeneron Science Talent Search.
• We still have an Elks quarterfinalist in the running, a JA of Arizona-18 Under 18 in consideration, and many other scholarship participants in review! Congratulations and best wishes for all their continued success!
Per student reporting, scholar and honors program information so far includes:
• 25 Barrett Honors College acceptances
• 26 University of Arizona Honors College acceptances
• We have Honors College acceptances to the University of Washington and George Washington University.
• We have our second Turing Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin this year!
• We earned our 1st Nemerov Writing Scholar at the University of Washington in St. Louis! (including scholarship)
• A senior was named a Yale Engineering and Science Scholar!

If your student needs to be reported absent due to an illness, doctor appointment, vacation, bereavement, religious holiday, etc., please email chdh_attendance@basised.com with the student's name, grade, and reason for absence. Email is the preferred method of reporting an absence, but feel free to call our Front Office at 480-907-6072 if that is more convenient for you.
