5th-8th Grade Spelling Bee | |
Dear Families,
It is nearly that time of year again when temperatures start to cool off (well, eventually they should cool off), pumpkin spice becomes ubiquitous, and spellers gear up for Spelling Bee season! All 5th - 8th grade students will have the option of competing in the first round of BASIS Chandler’s 2023 Spelling Bee September 11-13 in their either study hall (for grades 5-7) or their English class (for grade 8). This optional first round will be written. The words will come from grade-level lists of words as well as from the books listed at Great Words Great Works Reading List. Note that regardless of a student’s grade level, they may be asked to spell words from any of the grade level lists or any of the books.
Students may go to the Scripps National Spelling Bee website for preparation suggestions and additional resources. Be advised that some resources may charge a fee.
Students successful in Round One will advance to the BASIS Chandler school-wide Bee scheduled for Tuesday, October 24, at 4:15 pm in MPR 2.
Students may see Mr. Hanson in Classroom 209, Ms. Noyes in Classroom 208, or Mrs. Sebastian in Classroom 113 with questions and to receive a paper copy of the 2023-2024 School Spelling Bee Study List. Unfortunately, this document cannot be posted online or shared electronically. Feel free to reach out via email with any questions ([email protected]) as well. Good luck, spellers—we’ll see you at the Bee!
