The President's Corner

Greetings BIG Family,

I am thrilled to announce a momentous occasion - The 50th Anniversary of Blacks In Government (BIG)!

For half a century, BIG has been a beacon of hope, advocacy, and empowerment for African Americans in the government sector. Our journey has been marked by resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment to promoting professionalism, education and advocacy within government agencies. We have utilized our voices to ensure that our members and communities are represented, respected, and treated with fairness.

This milestone is not just a celebration of our past; it's also a call to action for the future. The legacy we build today will shape the opportunities for generations to come. As we look back on our achievements, from advancing policies that support minority representation to mentoring the next generation of leaders, we honor all of you who have contributed to our collective success.

Let’s take this opportunity to not only celebrate our accomplishments but also strengthen our commitment to advocating for excellence and equity in public service. Together, we can continue to break barriers, inspire change, and elevate the voice of the African American community in government.

Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. Here’s to the next 50 years of Blacks In Government!

NAVIGATING UNCERTAIN TIMES

BIG condemns the mass firing of probationary employees across the government and stands in solidarity with them! New employees to the government and aspiring seasoned staff are the key to maintaining a motivated, innovative, and successful workforce. We hope that recent actions such as the Office of Special Counsel case before the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) are successful and will provide probationary employees with the justice and respect they deserve. However, we understand that displaced staff across the country struggle to understand what has happened while trying to survive. Their well-being is BIG's highest priority. BIG has gathered resources below that we hope will help.

Call to Join National BIG Membership Committee!

Greetings Everyone,

I am Daryl Banks, your recently appointed Blacks In Government (BIG) National Membership Committee Chair. Among my top priorities in this role is the continued growth of the BIG organization. In my view, providing the highest level of membership service to existing and potential BIG members is essential to attracting and recruiting new members, as well as retaining existing members, at levels required to achieve this priority.

To make this a reality, I’m looking for a few more (3-5) talented, member-focused, dedicated BIG members to join the BIG National Membership Committee. Because practically all our duties and meetings will be accomplished virtually, the travel requirement is minimal.

Preferable intermediate-level skills, abilities and traits that would supercharge our committee include:

· Project Management (utilizing MS Project or Excel)

· Data Analysis and Visualization

· Impexium System Navigation & Utilization

· Customer Engagement / Management

· Written and Visual Communication

· Creative & Critical Thinking

· Event Planning

· Team-oriented

If you feel that you want to serve our BIG organization in this capacity, please email me (daryl.banks@bignet.org) and I will schedule a call with you to further discuss the committee’s roles and responsibilities. The call will also give you a chance to determine if I am someone you can work with . Also, feel free to email me your bio and/or resume at your earliest opportunity prior to our to-be-scheduled call. This will allow me to speak more productively with you.

Kindest Regards,

Mr. Daryl L. Banks

Chair, National Membership Committee

Blacks In Government, Inc.
