Mason's Message: We Need Your Thoughts

As part of our annual Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) we are asking our families, community members, students and staff to weigh in on critical priorities and funding decisions for our district.

This process is all part of the LCAP or Local Control Accountability Plan.

But what is the LCAP?

  • The LCAP is a three-year plan that targets State priorities such as state standards, pupil achievement and engagement, parental involvement and, school climate as well as local needs such as improving classroom technology, bolstering college & career readiness programs and enhancing after school resource programs.
  • The LCAP contains our district goals and priorities and as part of our outreach to stakeholders like you, we take your feedback and make sure that we are making progress towards our goals as well as analyze our priorities.
  • The LCAP outlines how much will be spent on each priority and how our district will measure progress.
  • The LCAP specifically looks at ways we can support our English Learners, Foster Youth, and low socioeconomic student populations.

With this system, the State recognizes that all school districts are different and local stakeholders like you should have a voice in deciding how our district invests state dollars to best support our BOUSD students and create effective and productive learning environments.

To increase the depth and breadth of stakeholder voice, we are asking you to engage and share your thoughts about our District in our Thoughtexchange. Our ThoughtExchange will be open through February 28, 2019.

Thank you in advance for your participation!
BOUSD to Offer Dual Language Immersion Program at Arovista Elementary in 2019-20 - Parent Info Meeting on Feb. 28, 2019

Spurred by strong parental interest, administrators in the Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) are moving forward with next steps to offer a Dual Language Immersion program at Arovista Elementary School beginning in the 2019-20 school year. The program will be available only to kindergarten students in the 2019-20 school year and a new grade level will be added each year as the program matures. Arovista will also offer full-day kindergarten for all students enrolled in the program.

The Dual Language Immersion program will develop foreign language proficiency by using a blended model of English and Spanish. The program will bring together native speaker of both Spanish and English. Instruction will be carefully designed and conducted in both languages. As a result, students will develop biliteracy and bilingualism that will carry them through their lives.

Interested families are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, February 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Arovista Elementary School ( 900 Eadington Drive, Brea).

The ‘Futures’ Looks Bright for New BOUSD Futures Academy Program

One of the main goals for the Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) is “Added Value Education” and “Opportunity for All” students. The District believes that every student has the ability to succeed academically, behaviorally and socially thus creating the Futures Academy, the newest program addition to the Brea Canyon High School and Country Hills Elementary School campuses. Futures Academy began during the 2018-19 school year at both the elementary and secondary level to provide BOUSD students with mental health needs an alternative quality education in a smaller, self-contained program that emphasizes individualized instruction.

Futures Academy began the school year with the hope of reintegrating students who had left BOUSD back onto a comprehensive campus. The District has seen much success with the program as only half-way through the first year, every Futures Academy student has “mainstreamed” into at least one general education classroom on either the Brea Olinda High School or Brea Canyon High School main campus. “The Future” sure is looking bright for this new program.
