Greetings!

As we enter this season of gratitude, we are reminded of just how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such an incredible community. To the families who trust us during one of the most important journeys of their lives, our dedicated staff who bring compassion and expertise to every interaction, our volunteers who generously give their time and talents, and our donors who make it possible for us to reach families who might otherwise go without support — thank you! The Breastfeeding Resource Center is so much more than a place to receive lactation care. We are a village of support, and it takes all of us working together to make that possible. We are grateful for each and every one of you!

Sincerely,

Colette Acker, IBCLC

Executive Director

Come Play Bingo and Support Pump It Up! Program

Jack and Jill Bingo means there are prizes for everyone, so bring your partner, family members, and friends. Bring your own food and drinks, and we’ll provide 10 Bingo cards and a free Bingo marker for each person. Think you can handle even more games? Extra Bingo cards will be available for purchase!

And here’s the fun part: when you win, you get to choose your prize from 10 fabulous options!

But Bingo isn’t all we have planned. There will also be our infamous Wine Game, a 50/50 raffle, raffle baskets, and a dessert table filled with yummy treats. There’s plenty of fun, food, and chances to win!

All of this for just $35 per person, or gather your friends and purchase a table of 8 for $250!

Best of all, your evening out will help support the Pump It Up! Program, which provides free breast pumps to families who need them. The program currently costs the BRC more than $8,000 each year, and we are already on track to distribute even more pumps this year.

So grab your friends, bring your snacks, and come have a great night while helping us make sure families have access to the breast pumps they need.

We hope to see you there!

Finding Confidence Through a Breastfeeding Challenge: Samantha & Margot’s Story

When Samantha faced mastitis just six days after her daughter Margot was born, she knew she needed support. She turned to the Breastfeeding Resource Center for help navigating the challenge and finding a plan that would allow her to continue breastfeeding.

After her visits with the BRC, Samantha felt confident and hopeful. The lactation consultants helped her better understand her body and gave her the knowledge and confidence she needed to work through the challenges she was experiencing.

Most importantly, that support helped Samantha extend her breastfeeding journey during a difficult time.

For Samantha, the BRC was a place where she knew she could make a plan, ask questions, and leave feeling better about her breastfeeding journey.

She now recommends the BRC to her friends whenever they are struggling with breastfeeding—or even when they simply have a question.

“I’m confident they will get the right support,” she shared.

We’re so glad we could be there for Samantha and Margot when they needed support and help them continue on their breastfeeding journey.

Meet Hillary, the Finance and Program Manager here at the BRC.

Hillary has been part of the BRC since its earliest days, beginning as a volunteer when we were based in Glenside and helping bring us into the social media age. She served on our Board of Directors before joining our office part-time in 2016. Her responsibilities soon grew to include setting up classes and workshops, administering insurance reimbursements, and pitching in wherever help was needed. When our long-time Office Manager retired, Hillary took on our bookkeeping role.

Hillary is a former accountant and auditor, so we didn’t have to convince her too much. She keeps us all paid and makes sure the lights are on for support groups. Hillary has been a breastfeeding advocate since the birth of her first son, back in 2000. She attended her local Nursing Moms Support Groups and is still great friends with three other women she met in that group. In 2001, Hillary took the Nursing Mother’s Advisory Council Peer Counselor course that was partially taught by Colette and began helping other local moms. Community has always been important to Hillary, and she served as a Group Leader for her local NMAC Chapter, as well as a counselor. It seems only natural that once her own kids were older, she found her way back to supporting families in our area.

Outside the BRC, Hillary is an avid reader and is learning to enjoy empty-nesting with her husband. Their house may be quieter, but they’re still finding new places to explore and espresso martinis to try. Her commitment to community continues beyond work: she actively volunteers in her community and at her alma mater. She also loves creating content and community for midlife women seeking joy and wellness in the second half of life.

Breastfeeding in Public: Let's Make It Normal Again!

This photograph, believed to date from around 1930, reminds us that breastfeeding in public was once simply a part of everyday life. Babies got hungry, mothers fed them, and life went on. Somewhere along the way, we've made something completely natural feel uncomfortable, awkward, or even inappropriate.

It's time to change that narrative. Breastfeeding isn't something that needs to be hidden, apologized for, or done behind closed doors. It's normal. It's beautiful. And it belongs everywhere babies and families go.

Let's bring back the days when feeding your baby in public was just... feeding your baby!

If this gets you thinking, you must listen to our podcast, where Louisa and Colette interview Emily Little, PhD. Search The Feeding Frenzy on any platform!
