Because of you, medicine alumni class scholarship totals have surpassed $1 million, with a scholarship for nearly every class year since 1974.

The University of South Florida has been designated as the first “Emerging Preeminent” state research university by the Florida Board of Governors with hopes to achieve full Preeminent status by 2018 through advancements in education, research, patient care and community engagement.

Jo-Ann Alessandrini has been named associate vice president for USF Health Development and Alumni Relations, charged with leading the fundraising and alumni programs for the health colleges, schools and institutes at the University of South Florida.

Five USF Health clinical departments have been named Patient-Centered Medical Home sites by the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA), a selection that demonstrates their focus on patient-doctor partnerships.

Samuel A. Wickline, MD, has been named the first director of the USF Health Heart Institute, where he has begun to help design, build, equip and staff the facility, which will be co-located with the new Morsani College of Medicine in downtown Tampa.

Paul Wallach, MD '84 is one of the newest Charbonnier Endowed Chairs at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.
Christopher Cunha, MD '85 became Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Pediatrics for 2016. He has served on various committees of the ABP for the past 20 years including the General Pediatrics Exam Committee and chair of the Maintenance of Certification Committee.
John Kilgore, MD '89 is one of four physicians who donated their time to Morton Plant Hospital to give four individuals living with limited mobility and pain total joint replacements for the holidays as part of Operation Walk USA.
Daniel Lamar, MD '98 has joined the Tennessee Titans in Nashville as lead orthopedic consultant. Dr. Lamar is a sports medicine specialist and orthopedic surgeon with Coastal Orthopedics Sports Medicine & Pain Management and was an orthopedic surgeon for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 10 years.
Dania Rumbak, MD '08 is the CMO and Co-Founder of the doctor-on-demand app, Baby Doctor, which allows users in the Manhattan area can request a pediatrician to come to their home within a 60-minute window. It has been featured on CNBC and Free Enterprise.
Benjamin Osterrieder, MD '12 joined Sacred Heart Medical Group and the practice of Dr. Shane Medlock, with offices in Pensacola and Pace, Florida. Dr. Osterrieder specializes in obstetrics and gynecology.

Chad Anthony Dickey, BA ’98, MS ’02, PhD '04 was a leading NIH-funded researcher in the Morsani College of Medicine who developed an international reputation seeking answers to some of the most fundamental questions about neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. He died Nov. 25, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 40.

Edahn Isaak, MD ’91 was the Transfusion Medical and Blood Bank Director at Staten Island University Hospital, teaching students and training residents. Through his research, Edahn created a new protocol on "the use of blood" for blood transfusions that saved many lives.

Sharon Perlman, MD, Morsani College of Medicine Faculty was an exceptional physician, colleague, teacher and patient advocate, died Dec. 11, 2016. She was 63.
