Guest Preacher, George Slaton
This Sunday, October 7th, we welcome George Slaton. George grew up in Concord where he and his family were active members of First Presbyterian Church. He attended what is now Union Presbyterian Seminary and graduated from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. After serving churches in Florida and Tennessee, he completed a residency in pastoral psychotherapy in Atlanta GA. He served at Presbyterian Counseling Center in Wilmington NC from 1980 to 2010 where he was therapist and Executive Director. George is an honorably retired member of Charlotte Presbytery and works with its Conciliation Team.
Dedication Sunday
Please join us for Dedication Sunday where we will commit our time, talent, and treasure for the coming year as well as re-dedicate our worship space through special liturgy and music. The Sanctuary Choir will offer two up-lifting songs along with guest instrumentalists:  Be Thou My Vision and The Lord Bless You. Jacquie Yost is preparing especially wide-ranging pieces for the newly renovated main organ that embrace grandeur, awe, and meditative elements for God, and to inspire each of us as we seek God, and personal interaction with Jesus. We will continue our celebration following worship with an old fashioned picnic on the Church grounds with games and activities for the whole family! Don't miss the fun! To ensure that we have enough food, please sign up here.
Wednesday Night Fellowship
Please join us on Wednesday, October 10th, for a delicious meal and our series on Faith Practices. This week we will hear about Sacraments and work to reclaim the meaning of these experiences. This program is kid-friendly, so bring the whole family! Please sign up online or in the church office by noon Monday, October 8th. Menu: spaghetti, fruit, salad, dessert.
Lunch Bunch
Join us on Tuesday, October 16th for lunch and learn some basic Tai Chi Movement to improve balance with Instructor Gerald Moose. Please make your lunch reservations by Monday, October 15th.
Youth Forms and Fees are due this Sunday, October 7th
If your youth currently or plans to participate in First Youth Fellowship, it is time to turn in Youth Forms and Fees! Youth forms help us have the important information we need for trips or if there is an emergency. Youth Fees help cover meal reimbursements for fellowship dinners, special events, and trips.
Here you can find the Medical and Youth Information Form we went over at Youth Fellowship Kick Off. Youth fees are $45 per semester/$90 per year, per child. You can also now pay for youth fees online by clicking here. Currently, the website does not send those who pay a confirmation email, but if you would like receipt of payment, please email Rachel Vogado.
*If finances are an issue, please let Rachel know. We don't want you financial worries to hold you back from participation.

2018 Cabarrus County CROP Hunger Walk
What Is It? The Cabarrus County CROP Hunger Walk is a great opportunity for our church family to work together, by donating money and time, to end hunger in our community and in the world. This event includes educational stations (First Presbyterian of Concord is hosting the clean water station again this year) and a 1-mile and 3-mile walk. Fun for all ages!

When Is It?  Sunday, October 14th. Registration and education stations are at 1:00 PM. The walk is at 2:00 PM.

Where Is It? This year, the walk is happening at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church at 101 Vance Avenue in Kannapolis.

How Can I Donate? Click this link to our church’s team. You can donate there (and join the team at that link, too). You can also donate in the church office or in the collection plates on Sundays with checks designated to CROP walk. Last year, our church collected an amazing $1706 for this event, and we have been challenged to that top that this year!

How Can I Join In? You can use the above link to register for the team or you can call the church office. You can also join in by just arriving that day! All are welcome!

Is There Any Other Way I Can Help? Yes! You can spread the word and encourage your friends and family to support this fun event. You also can help with our education station that day by helping to show other walkers what it is like to have limited access to clean water (we supply the educational tools) and handing out candy to the kids who visit our station.

Who Can I Contact with Questions? Our church’s CROP walk coordinator this year is Amy Woolwine. Feel free to email her at amywoolwine@hotmail.com or call her at 704-699-9185, if you have questions or want to help out.
