An Embarrassment of Riches
This week’s lectionary readings are an embarrassment of riches with regard to preaching possibilities and contemporary social commentary, so I have decided to pick two of them instead of the usual, one: Galatians 3:23-29 , Paul’s famous affirmation of equality in all human relationships in both church and society and a rejection of hierarchy, and Luke 8:26-39, Jesus’s Healing of the Gerasene Demoniac , a story that at first glance seems to be about the healing of a person with some form of mental Illness, but in reality is a powerful allegorical denunciation of colonial oppression by Rome of Israel and how to resist it (a primary clue to this reading is found in the symbolic name given to the demon-possessed man, Legion. So, it’s a story about resisting authoritarianism and political and economic oppression. I suspect we will have much to think about and discuss!

Blessings,
Scott Kenefake
Interim Pastor
Church Grounds Workday

Fellowship House Committee Request
Please claim your dishes in the Fellowship House kitchen. The kitchen has been painted and efforts have been made to clear out old, unclaimed dishes. If they are not taken by July 8th, they will be donated to our Benefit Yard Sale in the fall. All unclaimed dishes are on the shelf to the left of the dining room door (in the kitchen). Many thanks.

Join Our Discussion July 9th
At the June meeting, Session members endorsed the recommendation of the Personnel Committee that we add a part time COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR to our current staff. The job description for this position would include giving our church a strong presence on social media, creating electronic & hard copy flyers, working with the group responsible for the COMMONS, and hopefully, providing live streaming of our worship service. If you are interested in participating in the discussion of this exciting new direction for our community of faith, please JOIN OUR DISCUSSION on Tuesday evening, July 9, in the Library Conference Room at 7:00 P.M. Please visit the websites of other churches with a social media presence. We welcome your questions, ideas, & suggestions by email to any PERSONNEL member-Donna Knorr, Jeff Monroe, or Jane Spainhour.
