THE BANNER

A Note from Ellen
Dear Friends,

Thank you for your grace and your graciousness with last Sunday’s change of plans. I am deeply grateful for the gift of technology that allows us to worship together even when we are apart. I am also grateful that we will (hopefully!) only need to use this technology occasionally. I much prefer to see you in person!

On Monday, January 24, we will officially welcome Julie Hill as our temporary, full-time associate pastor. Following worship on January 30, you will have the opportunity to greet Julie and welcome her in Davis Hall.

I am excited for you to get to know Julie, and I look forward to all that God has in store for FPC in this new chapter.

Grace and peace,
Ellen
Welcome, Julie Hill!
Julie comes to us from First Presbyterian Church in Norwood, NC where she has been the Pastor since 2010. She has also served as an Associate Pastor at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Julie is a native of Wilmington, NC. She graduated from Duke University with a B.A. in Political Science, after which she worked as a marketing representative for IBM in Richmond, VA. After more than a decade at home while her children were young, Julie received a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in Charlotte. Julie serves on the Presbytery Council and was on the Presbytery’s Emmaus (Visioning) Team from 2014-2016 and chaired the Strategic Planning Task Force from 2016-2017. Julie and her husband, Thomas Jennings, have two adult sons, Elliott and Sam, who both live in the Charlotte area

Todd Hobbie Sunday School Class
Todd regrets that due to Omicron he will not be able to teach for the next four Sundays. Betsy has chronic asthma and is very susceptible to upper respiratory infections which might be brought home from the church.

The class will not meet this Sunday; however, we are pleased to welcome the Rev. Dr. Deborah Conner who will teach January 30, February 6 and February 13. Deborah received a B.A. from San Francisco State University, an M.Div. from Columbia Seminary and a D.Min. from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in Iowa focusing on issues related to clergy leadership and congregational care.  Deborah has served churches in California, Georgia and North Carolina as an Elder and Pastor. Most recently she served Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Congregational Care. Deborah will teach on both letters to the Corinthians with a focus on 2 Corinthians 2-7.

We are looking to hire someone to work in the nursery on Sunday mornings. If you or someone you know is interested in this position, please contact René Prager, Hunter Morrison, or a member of the personnel committee (Donna Knorr, Merl Hamilton, Anita Brown) for more information.
