Online Bible Study on the Book of Job, led by Rush Otey
This study on Job will continue through March 27. Watch for the weekly Thursday emails. A separate email will give notice near the end of each month for the Zoom discussion forums.
Session Meeting Highlights from February 9, 2021
  • The Session met on February 9th using Zoom Internet video and audio.
  • We are excited about our Annual Congregational and Annual Corporation Meetings this coming Sunday, February 21. It will be a Zoom meeting and it will be so great to be “together” and see many faces that we haven’t seen in a while!
  • William Niblock presented a positive report on our income and expense budget for the first month of the year.
  • Be sure to pick up your Lent Bags from the Fellowship House and/or the Deacons will deliver as needed!
  • The Session approved the Girl Scouts holding a drive-through cookie sale at the church – don’t miss this on February 14, noon-1:00 p.m.
  • Rene Prager reported a number of youth activities and trips in the works, and plans are beginning for Vacation Bible School.
  • Susan Otteni and Kathy Pilkington reported about the February 6th Presbytery meeting and the efforts to help us prepare for what to expect in the wake of the pandemic.
  • The Deacons are considering how best to support the Salvation Army in the fundraising efforts for their new building.
  • The next Session meeting will be held on March 9, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.

As Presbyterians, decisions affecting our worship, education, spiritual nurture, physical property, and budget are made by our elected leaders. To connect with church officers, see the list of Elders and Deacons and their committee assignments on the church website under the “ABOUT” tab, “Staff and Leadership.”

The Session meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Minutes are open and available by request after they are approved at the following month’s Session meeting.

We are blessed at First Presbyterian Church to have Dr. Jacqueline Yost, who is renowned as one of the finest classical musicians in the area, as our organist. On March 1 we will have an opportunity to hear Jacquie play an all-Bach organ concert at Davidson College Presbyterian Church as part of the annual Bach Birthday Bash at Davidson College. The concert will be available to the public via live streaming.

Easter Hams for Operation Breadbasket
The S & D Sunday School class invites the congregation to join us in providing Easter hams to families in-need, served by Operation Breadbasket. Brian Moore is purchasing 110 hams and, along with S & D class members, will shop and deliver those hams to Operation Breadbasket in time for their Easter distribution. If you would like to donate, please make your check out to Brian Moore and either drop it off at the church office, or mail to him: 2401 Bethlehem Church Rd, Gold Hill, NC 28071. Thank you!
CCM Monthly Needs Update
I’m looking out on a sunny day at our drive-through pantry for the first time in about a week! Praise the Lord! We also are praising the Lord for a marvelous response to the annual Scouting for Food drive earlier this month. I know many of your congregations sponsor Boy Scout troops. So far they have collected and brought in a record-smashing 14,000 lbs. and it’s still coming in! Much of that already has been shared with our satellite pantries scattered around the county.

Our current big needs continue to be:
        Peanut Butter
Canned carrots, peas, potatoes and mixed veggies
        Canned fruit
        Any dried beans
        Pasta Sauce
        Toilet paper

As always, we especially seek low sodium items, no-added-sugar items, and whole grain items.

Right now, we have plenty of the following:
       Canned chicken and tuna
       Canned green beans and corn
       Canned Pinto Beans
       Spaghetti noodles
       Macaroni & Cheese
Thank you for the continued support from our church partners. Our Crisis Center at 246 Country Club Drive NE in Concord serves as the warehouse for most of the food. We will gladly accept all donations at that site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Bethel Baptist Helping Hands Food Pantry, located at 1209 1/4 Opal Street in Kannapolis, will gladly accept donations from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday and Thursday. The food pantry located at Westford UMC on Highway 49 and the Kannapolis Food Pantry at West Point Baptist Church can accept donations on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Feeding Our Souls Food Pantry at Bethel UMC in Midland, and North Kannapolis Baptist Church Food Pantry will accept donations by calling the church in advance. The pantry at New Life Baptist Church is temporarily closed.
Girl Scout News - Second Cookie Drive Announced

The Girl Scouts of First Presbyterian Church would like to thank the congregation for supporting their cookie sale on February 14th!
The girls will host a second drive-up cookie booth in front of the sanctuary on Girl Scout Sunday, March 14th, from noon to 2 p.m., so if you missed the opportunity the first time you can still get those cookies!
