Devotional to begin the New Year
Here is a poem, written by Byron Herbert Reece in 1945, which I believe is especially appropriate as we enter 2021:

O Song, hung as clear in the mind
As the tremor of beaten bells,
Come forth now, lovely and clear,
And undisturbed by the swells
Of the ocean of thought that beats
On the shores of a troubled year,
Let what the tongue repeats of evil and death be drowned
By a lovelier sound.

"Racial Equity discussions continue..."
As racial tensions continue to plague our communities, the necessity of Christians to engage in this critical conversation as part of our commitment to be gospel-bearers remains important. Our Racial Equity Reads group is taking a brief hiatus from reading to view some lectures on the history of racism as taught by Jeffery Robinson, Deputy Legal Director and Director of the Trone Center for Justice and Equality. Please join us via Zoom to view these lectures and discuss on Sunday, January 10th at 4 p.m. for part 1, and Sunday, January 24th at 4 p.m. for part 2. For more information or to sign up to join the discussion, please contact Lynne Keel at
Backpack Program Activity
In celebration of the 31st anniversary of the Souper Bowl of Caring, First Presbyterian Church and Central United Methodist Church are joining forces to provide our Backpack families at Coltrane-Webb Elementary School with soup bags. Here is your opportunity for some hands-on activity in support of the program, which you are all so exceptionally good at!

So that our families are all served equally, we have established a list of items to collect. If you would like to help, this is what we need:

Tomato Soup – 10 ½ ounce cans
Chicken Noodle Soup – 10 ½ ounce cans
Vegetable Soup – 10 ½ ounce cans (any vegetable soup, with or without meat, is fine)
Dried Onion Soup Mix – 2-ounce boxes containing 2 envelopes
Saltine Crackers – one-pound boxes (typically 4 sleeves of crackers)
Cookie Packs – individual serving sizes packed and available in multi-pack boxes

House brands are perfectly acceptable but sticking to the sizes shown helps us help our families in the best way possible.

Drop your items off in the red wagon in Fellowship House by noon on Monday, February 1, and give yourself a pat on the back and a “Good on you!” from everyone on the Backpack committee.

As always, thank you for your generosity!

Journey Sunday School Class Resumes
THE JOURNEY SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS will resume - safely - in person meeting on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 9:45 a.m. in the Sanctuary. This Winter we are going to study a newly released curriculum from The Presbyterian Outlook. Previously, we have studied the weekly article by Jill Duffeiled from The Presbyterian Outlook and she was involved in the creation of this curriculum. "TESTIMONY: Vocabulary of Faith" was designed with the hope it frees people to live their Reformed faith by remembering, reclaiming, and rearticulating what we believe about who God is and who we are so the patterns of our lives embody the liberating love and grace of Jesus Christ.
