New Nursery Faith Formation Opportunities
There are exciting new things happening in the nursery on Sunday mornings for our infants and toddlers! Thanks to the sharing of gifts and time from Brian and Margaret Moore, infants and toddlers are now getting to hear, see, and experience Bible stories in wonderful, age-appropriate ways. Using our new Frolic Curriculum, our little ones in the nursery can hear Bible stories from the Old and New Testament in a way that is engaging, visually stimulating, and featuring play-based Sunday school lessons including Bible stories, prayers, music, and more. Little ones will also meet the Frolic characters who help kids explore feelings and navigate different developmental milestones, Ava the lamb, Hal the hedgehog, Jo the goat, Rufus the dog, and Uri the dove.
We are also looking for people who might be interested in reading Bible stories on Sunday mornings and sharing in the good work of helping our littlest members of our faith family grow up in God's love. Learn more or share your interest by reaching out to Rachel Vogado or Margaret Moore, and this week you can meet those characters and see other books that are used in the nursery that are available to purchase at our Book Fair! Come and see the new and faithful learning opportunities in our nursery!
Report from the Dunford Fund
In the past year the Presbyterian Women have given $21,930 from their portion of the Dunford Fund to worthy projects in our church and community. Among these were the Ridenhour Scholarship given annually from the fund in memory of Mrs Johnsie Sims Ridenhour to support a seminary student.
This year some of the funds were used in our own church facilities due to unexpected costs of the Prayer Room and to support a related Eagle Scout project.  Donations were also made for a respite program for pastors to the William Black Lodge at Montreat and for Circle #3’s postal expenses for care packages for military women serving in war zones.
Funds were distributed to afterschool, tutoring and literacy programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club, Academic Learning Center, Cabarrus Bilingual Preschool, Community Care of Southern Piedmont, and El Puente Hispano.
Materials and equipment were provided for Handprints Ministry for the hearing impaired, the Salvation Army Women’s auxiliary for their Christmas Stocking workshop, and to Habitat for Humanity’s 2018 Women Build. And, finally, subsidies were given to Amazing Grace Advocacy to provide counseling and advocacy services to several families of children with brain disorders.
The Dunford fund was left in the care of the Presbyterian Women by Nancy Ridenhour Dunford in honor of her mother, Mrs. Johnsie Sims Ridenhour, a faithful member, in 1982. Funds are limited and are often unable to cover all of requests so the grants have to be allocated according to the extent to which the requests reflect the goals of the organization. For more information, please contact Cathy Floyd, treasurer.
