Note from Ellen

Dear Friends,

It has been said that love makes the world go round. It has also been said that money spins the planet. Our next “Games People Play” is Monopoly, and money (plus property) definitely makes the pieces go round.

Jesus talks about money a lot. Some of his parables simply use money as an illustration, but money and how we use it is a primary concern for Jesus. Every family has a money narrative, and more often than not, that narrative is a delicate topic. The larger church family has a money narrative too, one that has generated lively debates throughout the centuries. What is your family’s money story? How does that story intersect with the life of faith?

This Sunday, through the lens of Luke 18:18-27 and Monopoly we’ll wonder together about our money story and stories here and now. And I promise, there’s good news in there for all of us and for the church, too.

Grace and peace,

Ellen

Borrowed VBS Items

Thank you to everyone who allowed us to borrow items for Vacation Bible School! Re-purposing items is in alignment with our commitment to the “Call to Restore Creation” as an Earth Care congregation.

If you loaned us items, you should have received an e-mail last week indicating that your rugs, scarves, etc. are ready for pick-up in the Fellowship House foyer.

We do have a couple of things that were not photographed at drop off and we are not sure who they belong too. These include a set of three colorful baskets and a few scarves.

If you allowed us to borrow items and you have NOT yet received a pick-up e-mail, please e-mail René Prager at r.prager@firstpresconcord.org.

Congratulations!

July 6, 2023 marked 25 years of faithful service for Heath Ritchie at FPC.

Heath's official title is “maintenance supervisor,” but he does a little bit of everything. If things run smoothly, it’s largely due to Heath.

It’s not easy being Heath. His hardworking and gracious ways make life abundantly easier for all of us! And we are so grateful!

Visit with Local Authors at the Lunch Bunch

Join the Lunch Bunch in Davis Hall at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, July 26th and spend time with church member, Debbi Burke, and her long-time neighbor, Mary Reese, who started writing a historical novel together many years ago—just for fun. They joined efforts under the pen name, Deborah Reese, and published their first book--  related to events of the War of 1812 in Maryland-- called Two Wars Raging (available in our Church Library) during the covid lockdowns. Their new book about people living in Charleston at the end of the American Revolution, Low Country Boil, was recently released. Find out how the two friends worked together to write with one voice. Guests are welcome!

Lunch will be available with reservations for $9 and need to be made by calling our Church Reservation Line at 704-788-2100 Option # 7.
