Gracious Greens Garden Project
|
It’s that time again and we need your input. The Gracious Greens Garden is one of our church’s most generous contributions toward addressing the problem of hunger in our community. Out of our five (5) previous gardens, we have harvested and donated almost four (4) tons of greens! That's the good news. The more difficult news is that we are now having difficulty finding volunteers to keep this good program going. We pray that many of you can rethink your busy schedules and find a few hours to give to this ministry. You will not be sorry! Working outside with fellow church members will have benefits in your life that will surprise you.
If you are interested in hearing more about this life-giving mission, please come to a “re-grouping” meeting at 6:30 PM on Wed. June 27 at 2269 Irish Potato Road (the home of Corky and Mary Ann Johnson). A light supper will be served.
To sign up for supper, please click here.
At the meeting, we will hear from Elizabeth Anne Dover, who has once again offered her farming skills and acumen to the garden. We will also discuss ways to structure the project around busy work and family schedules.

Prior to Wills Emphasis Sunday, May 6th, a letter was sent to our congregation by the First Presbyterian Church Foundation and the Stewardship Committee. The letter encouraged our church family to place a gift for our church in each family's estate plans. Included in the letter was a postage paid return post card asking that you share your intentions with the church. If you have not done so and wish to do so, please return these cards at your earliest convenience. Our church will certainly benefit from these kind gifts.

For the last two weeks the church has been buzzing with energy and joy as kids and volunteers experienced our first ever "Summer VBS Camp." Teaming up with our amazing First Kids preschool staff, Rachel Vogado and our Christian Education team brought our VBS theme and activities into the traditional preschool summer camp for the first week. For the second week, another group of preschoolers joined our traditional VBS format and participated in many of the rotations. The result was a significant increase in numbers for all age groups, as we welcomed more than 100 children from the church, the preschool, and the community! For two wonderful weeks, Bible stories came to life as we prayed, created, imagined, sang songs, and learned about God together.
We want to give a big THANK YOU to all the people who volunteered time, energy, and enthusiasm for this important ministry. We also wish to give special thanks to our
First Kids Preschool teachers who worked seamlessly with our volunteers and embraced this new model with openness, flexibility, and enthusiasm.

We also want to give special thanks to
Holly Cagle
and
Judy Mongold
who helped plan and direct VBS this year, and to
Maureen O'Bryan
and
Pam Prentice
for visioning with us in a new endeavor.
Last but certainly not least: Please don't forget to ask our kids about the wonderful things they learned and experienced while out there on the "rolling river." In a new way, they know the meaning of God's promise to us: "
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you!
" (Isaiah 43:2)
