THE BANNER

October 15, 2025

Note from Ellen

Dear Friends,

On Sunday we will catch back up with Samuel as an older man. The people have demanded a king, like their neighbors have, and though God is not pleased with the idea, God chooses Saul, and the people of Israel have their first human king. And things do not go well. So God decides it’s time for a new king and taps Samuel to go out and anoint the one God chooses. God’s choice is David, the youngest of Jesse’s sons. God chooses David because of his heart. In ancient Hebrew terms, the heart is the center of one’s mind and being, not simply one’s emotions.

As we read the story of David’s anointing and a portion of Psalm 51 (1 Samuel 16:1-13; Psalm 51:10-14), what kind of heart does God seek? As we give of our time, talents, treasure, energy, and efforts toward building a home for God at FPC, what heart work are we being called to do in God’s name? I hope to see you on Sunday when we’ll wonder about this together.

Grace and peace,

Ellen

We can accommodate up to six volunteers each week. You may bring your own favorite children’s books, or we can provide some for you. Depending on the needs of the classroom, volunteers may also assist with small group reading or light instructional activities.

All volunteers must complete a Cabarrus County Schools background check before participating. This is free and can be completed online here: https://securevolunteer.com/Cabarrus-County-Schools/home.

Healing Support Luncheon

Sunday, November 2 at 12:30 PM

Davis Hall

We will have a guest speaker.

We each grieve in our own way. There is no timeline for grief. This luncheon is for anyone who has recently experienced the loss of someone dear and for those who know the dull ache of grief over time. Brief words about grief and prayers for healing will be offered, however, the focus is on sharing a meal with others who understand loss. You may invite any family, friends, or neighbors, who have had losses of their own this year.

Please RSVP October 27th to 704-788-2100 ext. 7

ALL SAINTS BANNER

A special bell banner will be available in the narthex before and after worship (10/19 and 10/26) where members can hang a bell representing a loved one who has passed.

The bell banner will be lifted and carried into worship on All Saints Sunday, November 2. The bell banner will also be available during the week in the library conference room.

Market for Missions 2025 - a Resounding Success!

The 2025 Market sale has come and gone, and we are forever grateful for the many donations, exodus help, volunteer work in prepping the sale and working the actual day of...which started in the dark!  Here are just a few pictures to share the excitement and joy of the day. It was especially nice to have our Haiti partners Actionnel Fleurisma and Missy Parker with us.

We are nearing $25K total for the entire sale! That includes: online sales of nice shoes and handbags, the youth's baked goods, monetary donations, Oct. 4th ~$18K and Oct. 5th ~$3,700. We will certainly have a tidy sum to send to CCM for the Rebuilders Campus and to Friends Empowering Haiti.

And what did the committee do to celebrate? Lunch at the Union St. Cafe!

We are grateful beyond words.
