Join us Sunday, November 3rd, at 5 pm, for a special contemplative worship service, followed by a simple meal together. This short service (approximately 30 minutes) includes Holy Communion, periods of silence, candles, and music. Please join us in Davis Hall following the service, for a light meal and fellowship.
Time to change your clocks!
Don't forget to turn your clocks back this weekend so you arrive on time for worship on Sunday!
Christian Education Committee Book Fair
The Children's Book Fair co-hosted by the Christian Education Committee and First Kids Preschool is open in Davis Hall! Partnering with First Kids for their Scholastic book fair, October 30-November 4, the CE Committee will be selling books, Bibles, and devotionals that are used with our nursery and elementary age curriculum, along with other faith based books. The book fair will be open for shopping on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and during the weekday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Come shop for wonderful books for infants and children to help them thrive spiritually, emotionally, and socially.
All Church Read- Neighborhood Church
Join us in November and December as we study the book "Neighborhood Church" by Krin Van Tatenhove and Rob Mueller. Together we will ask the question, "How can we embody the values of love, grace, and justice?" As faith communities, how can our collective embodiment of these values shine even brighter? The answers to these questions must always unfold right here, right now, exactly where God has planted us."
Books can be bought online or they can be purchased through the church office for $12.
All Adult Sunday School classes as well as the High School Sunday School class are invited to gather in Davis Hall starting on November 3rd at 9:45 a.m. We hope you will join us!

Presbyterian Missions
A good number of people in the congregation have recently requested an opportunity to explore ways to take a "deeper dive" into current Presbyterian Church USA mission initiatives on a local, national, and global level. For those interested, we will have a brief 30 minute "brainstorming" meeting in the Fellowship House following worship this Sunday, November 3rd, at 12:15 p.m. In preparation for the meeting, please peruse the links below, as well as: Presbyterian Church (USA)

Called Congregational Meeting
There will be a Congregational Meeting following the worship service on Sunday, November 17, for the purpose of affirming the nominees that have been selected for the Pastor Nominating Committee. The names of the nominees will be shared with the Congregation following the November 12th Session meeting.
Presbyterian Women Award Scholarship to Casey Aldridge
The Presbyterian Women have awarded this year's Ridenhour Scholarship to church member Casey Aldridge, a student at the Princeton Theological Seminary, for a special summer program. The scholarship was established in 1983 in memory of Mrs. Johnsie Sims Ridenhour "...with deep gratitude for her faithful service and generosity to First Presbyterian Church... The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize and encourage committed and talented young persons within the Presbytery to explore Professional church occupations in faithful response to God's call." The scholarship is funded each year by distributions from the Dunford Fund left to the Presbyterian Women in honor of Mrs. Ridenhour in the will of her daughter, Nancy Ridenhour Dunford. It is a great privilege for the Presbyterian Women to award this year's scholarship to this fine young man who grew up in First Presbyterian Church.
Irvin Elementary School Needs
For several years we at First Presbyterian Church have partnered with Irvin Elementary as part of the Adopt A School Program supporting students and teachers in a variety of ways. The school maintains a clothing closet with items that are used when children arrive at school wearing inappropriate attire for the season, or when their clothing becomes unwearable during school hours. There is a pressing need now for new boys and girls socks in sizes youth small to adult medium, and for boys and girls underwear sizes youth small (4-6) to adult small. In addition, there is a need for belts, youth sizes small, medium and large, and for deodorant.
In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, we all have much for which to be thankful, and we should remember the many children of lesser means in our community that are in need of adequate clothing during school. Please consider purchasing any of the items mentioned above and bringing them to the Fellowship House where a well marked receptacle will be placed inside the back door. We are collecting donated items between now and Sunday, December 1. All collected items will be delivered to the school after Thanksgiving and be available to needy students during late fall and winter.
