Concord Christmas Parade
The annual Concord Christmas Parade is this Saturday, November 17th from 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. We encourage everyone to come out for this fun event. Our church provides assorted cookies, cocoa and lemonade free of charge as an outreach to the community. Bring blankets or chairs. There is plenty of open space to sit on the church grounds and enjoy fellowship while watching the parade.
We would welcome cookie donations. Store-bought or homemade are both great. If you would be able to bring two dozen cookies, please email Ashley Fischer at by Thursday, so that we know about how many cookies to expect. You can drop off cookies, marked "The Christmas Parade," in the Fellowship House during church office hours (M-Th 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) or on Sunday morning. Also, we would welcome help to set-up, help to man the tables during the parade, and help with clean-up.
November 25th Guest Preacher, Larry Lyon
On Sunday, November 25th, we welcome Larry Lyon back to the pulpit. Honorably retired as a PCUSA pastor, Larry now serves as the part-time staff associate for senior adult ministries at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. He served as solo pastor of Rumple Memorial Presbyterian in Blowing Rock from 1998-2006, and as senior pastor of West End Presbyterian Church in West End from 2006-2015. He had a first career in newspaper journalism. He and his wife Martha live in Cornelius.

There will be no Sunday School classes meeting that day, but you are invited to a fellowship hour in Davis Hall at 10:00 a.m., where we will hear from a representative of Camp Grier. Come have a cup of coffee and learn about this powerful camp ministry in the mountains!

Opportunity House Tent Appeal

Now in existence for almost ten years, Opportunity House offers support for the disadvantaged in our community. In order to meet our mission, we rely on the generosity of individuals, churches, and businesses alike. Without the support of community-minded individuals like yourselves, we would not be able to continue our work serving the homeless, the unemployed, and the under-employed in our community each year.
Now that cooler weather is setting in, Opportunity House is in need of tents, tarps, and sleeping bags for the population we serve. If you would like to help, but don’t know anything about these items, Academy Sports (locations in Northlite Shopping Center and on Concord Mills Boulevard, or online at carries the items we typically buy:
  • Magellan Outdoors Tellico 3 Person Dome Tent – $24.99
  • Magellan Outdoors 30 Degrees F Rectangle Sleeping Bag – $14.99
  • Academy Sports + Outdoors 8 ft x 10 ft Polyethylene Tarp – $6.99

If you’re comfortable shopping online and would like to ship directly to us, our address is: Opportunity House Mission, 72 Corban Avenue SW, Concord, NC 28025

We’re also happy to do the shopping for you if you’ll note on your contribution that it’s for tents, tarps, and sleeping bags.
Thanks to all the members of First Presbyterian Church for your continuing support of Opportunity House.
