Note from Ellen
There are things I must
do but not today. I am
too busy sitting.

~Sarah Ruhl in Love Poems in Quarantine

Dear Friends,

What does Sabbath look like for you? For the next three Sundays, we will shift gears with a new worship series entitled, “Practicing Sabbath.” In the 11 AM service and in the 5 PM Selah service, we will explore what it means to be faithful in following God’s command to keep the sabbath with rest and worship in the midst of our 24/7 world. The texts for the next three Sundays are listed below. I invite you to read and reflect on them each week as we listen for God’s word to us together.

Grace and peace,
Ellen

A Couple Commons Requests...
Following VBS this week the Commons committee will be moving ahead with a thorough cleaning of the room and content refresh. On Tuesday, July 12th we need some ‘muscle’ to move the sofas so the floor can be polished. Any takers? Please email Carrie Myers at csm5620@gmail.com. Additionally we have found a few items in the Commons that are in need of minor repairs. If that is part of your particular skill set, you can be a part of the Commons reboot! We would love to identify someone as our Commons ‘handyperson.’ Again, just email Carrie. Work can be done in July or August. We are excited to be starting work on making the Commons once again available to First Pres and the community
Once a King or Queen of Narnia, Always a King or Queen of Narnia!
If you are still singing the words or humming the tune of "Kids of the Kingdom", we know you were a volunteer at Adventures in Narnia Vacation Bible School last week! On Wednesday we learned about the death and resurrection of Jesus and on Thursday we wore our armor to fight evil and celebrated God’s kingdom here on Earth. We enjoyed hearing Professor Digory Kirke tell us about Narnia. We sang, decorated royal crowns, played bible bingo, ate cupcakes, and played games on the front lawn of the Fellowship House with our local Concord police officers, and were surrounded by God’s love.
Cabarrus County EMS gives us a Shout Out
One of our four mission projects during VBS week was to collect and package snack packs for the Cabarrus County EMS team. Thanks to the generous combined donations from our congregation and our VBS families, the kids packaged 152 snack packs - filled with crackers, granola bars, and other snacks. EMS workers often get a call before or during meal times and these snack packs will give them a little fuel for the road.

Cabarrus County EMS posted this photo and caption on their Facebook page last week:

Thank you to First Presbyterian Church, Concord NC for the snacks today! We appreciate the love and support!
