Session Meeting Highlights from March 9, 2021
  • The Session met on March 9th using Zoom Internet video and audio.
  • A Congregational Meeting via Zoom was approved for March 21, 2021 at 12:00 noon for the purpose of electing the new classes of church officers.
  • A Congregational Meeting via Zoom was approved for April 11 at 11:00 a.m. for the purpose of hearing a recommendation from the Pastor Nominating Committee for our next Senior Minister.
  • Maundy Thursday and Easter services are being prepared and will be shared through video. A drive-through Flowered Cross service will be held again on Easter morning in front of the sanctuary!
  • The youth mission weekend, led by René Prager, was a great success involving 29 youth and focusing on local church and Concord missions. The youth made thank you cards for healthcare workers; held a Blessing Box collection drive and will restock the Blessing Box for the month of March; created Easter cards for our VIPs; made sandwiches for Opportunity House; made college care packages for our college students going into exams, and heard from a number of speakers about our local church and community needs.
  • Youth confirmation class is near completion. The youth will meet with the Session on April 13 and will be confirmed at the May 9 worship service.
  • Watch for the date of an upcoming congregational workday to work on the parking lots on the Church Street side of the church.
  • The Blessing Box, coordinated by the Deacons, has been very popular! Groups within the church are committing to take a month to monitor and place items in the Blessing Box. Donations continue to be accepted and can be dropped off in the foyer of the Fellowship House. Remember, this box is for “street” type foods, i.e. ready to eat individual single servings, pop-top lids, simple hygiene items, (NOT larger food pantry types of things).
  • The next Session meeting will be held on April 13, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.

As Presbyterians, decisions affecting our worship, education, spiritual nurture, physical property, and budget are made by our elected leaders. To connect with church officers, see the list of Elders and Deacons and their committee assignments on the church website under the “ABOUT” tab, “Staff and Leadership.”

The Session meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Minutes are open and available by request after they are approved at the following month’s Session meeting.
Cookie Connection!
The Girl Scout troops of First Presbyterian would like to express their gratitude for your amazing support at their cookie booth on Girl Scout Sunday! It was a record setting booth with 284 boxes sold in two hours, including 87 boxes of thin mints! A steady stream of customers, including nine walk-up and thirty-five drive-up customers, kept the girls busy practicing their business skills and having fun. At least twenty-six of the customers are, or have been, registered Girl Scouts.

Book of Job Zoom Discussion
There will be a Zoom meeting to discuss the Book of Job on Sunday, March 28 at 7 p.m. An invitation to the Zoom meeting will be sent to the Congregation so anyone who wishes may attend. This will be the only live opportunity to discuss this book, not two as originally thought. Thank you.
More Highlights from the Youth Mission Weekend
This week's Youth Mission highlight focuses on connecting with our local Healthcare Heroes. The hard working employees at the hospital, and across the healthcare system, have been working diligently to keep our community safe and healthy during this pandemic. The Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation extended an invitation to the community to support the frontline workers through tokens of thanks. Our Youth participated in the Thank You card drive during our Youth Mission weekend.

Jon Sauter, Director of Annual Giving at the Foundation, came to speak to our Youth about the importance of supporting our frontline workers. Mr. Sauter serves on a special committee within the Foundation, the Teammate Resilience Committee, and his group is responsible for helping to elevate morale among our Healthcare Heroes. The Youth wrote thirty-four thoughtful cards and recorded two video messages for the Foundations project.

This is an ongoing effort and the congregation is encouraged to participate. Thank you cards can be mailed to:

About the photos: Jon Sauter (in the black Atrium jacket and blue Atrium mask) spoke with the Youth about his work at the Foundation and how their efforts will make a positive impact on Healthcare Heroes. The Youth and youth mentors spent time creating inspiring cards for doctors, nurses, and hospital staff.
S & D Sunday School Class Update
The S & D Sunday School Class will be starting a new study in the next couple of weeks. We will be studying “The Apostles Creed For Today" by Justo Gonzalez.  Gonzalez explores not only what the creed meant in the early centuries, but also why it is important and relevant for our faith today.
All are welcome. If you’d like to join us, call Todd Phillips or Sallie Dotger for further information . We meet at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday morning via Zoom.

Easter Hams Report
The S & D Sunday School class would like to thank the congregation for their generous support of the fundraising drive for the Easter hams for Operation Breadbasket. Brian Moore purchased the 110 hams for a total of $1229.64 and has delivered those to Operation Breadbasket for distribution to their clients. $1665 was collected and the balance of $435.36 was made as a donation to Operation Breadbasket. Thank you for helping to provide a meal to families in need this season.
