the Rev. Bil Aulenbach (& Annie Aulenbach) on Sept 4
GIven Reverend’s Bil Aulenbach's past involvement in Camp Mokule'ia here on Oah'u, he and his wife, Annie, were invited to attend the camp’s 75th Anniversary Celebration, which takes place on Saturday, September 3rd. While here on Oahu to enjoy the festivities, he also will be guest preacher at Holy Nativity Church on Sunday, September 4th.
Born at the end of the Great Depression, Bil was the son of a Philadelphia clergyman. He served in the Korean War as a Marine Corps Captain, attended seminary in Berkeley, and later earned an MSW from the University of Hawai‘i.
Rev. Aulenbach's first assignment was to Holy Nativity on August 23, 1960. Soon thereafter, Reverend met Annie, the new kindergarten teacher at Holy Nativity School; they were married at Holy Nativity Church in 1961 and had their first child while in Hawai’i.
In 1962, the French government offered Bil a scholarship to work on his doctorate in Strasbourg. In 1964, they returned to Hawai’i to serve at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on Maui.
While in France, Annie had rubella during the first trimester of her next pregnancy. Their daughter Heidi was born in 1965 at Maui Memorial. A few months later, Heidi’s care necessitated their return to Honolulu, and Bil returned to Holy Nativity as the Youth Minister.
He served as Director of the Diocesan Camps in Hawai'i until he, Annie, and Heidi had to leave in 1975 to give Heidi better educational opportunities.
Bil and Annie have three adult children and live in Southern California. Now retired, they love to travel, having already visited sixty-seven different countries!
They are so pleased to be traveling to Hawai’i again, and be able to re-live the six great years they spent at HNC.
Aloha and Mahalo, Reverend Bil and Annie !
