The Sunday School made a "prayer tree" for Maui, remembering the Banyan Tree that lives at the center of Lahaina.
Thank you, Sunday School, for the thoughtful gesture!

Open Gym THIS Saturday 9/2 4p-6p
Joining us as hosts are Pastor Grace and her team from Calvary Lutheran Church. Welcome!
Pictured Below: Karla Kim and her Family
This family was here on vacation, visiting our columbarium where her family members are inurned. The kids saw that we were having August open gym and peeked in; they asked if they could join in and we, of course, said "yes"!
Dad and all the kids played basketball for the whole two hours!
Mom (Karla) grew up in Honolulu; she is a Holy Nativity grad!

Returning to Tradition at Communion Time
For over three years, since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, we have been receiving communion by coming forward, one at a time, to the break in the altar rail while standing socially distanced from one another.
Beginning this coming Sunday, Sept 3, we will return to the very long-standing Holy Nativity custom of receiving the sacrament at the altar rail together:
At the time of distribution, those who wish to receive should move forward to the altar rail in TWO lines. The person at the head of the line on each side should take the "far position" at the altar rail that is nearest to pulpit and lectern on either side, respectively. Other people will fill in; four or five can fit comfortably on each side of the rail. You may kneel or stand to receive the sacrament, as is most comfortable for you.
You are welcome to receive the bread only or both the bread and the wine from the ministers who will come past you (on the inside of the rail). If you choose to receive the wine, please drink from the chalice, rather than dip or "intinct." If you wish to receive a blessing, please place your hands across your chest as you approach.

SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM PRESIDING BISHOP MICHAEL CURRY TO THE DIOCESE OF HAWAI'I
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry shared a message of care of compassion to the Diocese of Hawai'i, and especially to those affected by the deadly Maui fires that destroyed Lahaina and a community that included Holy Innocents Episcopal Church. You can view the video message on both our YouTube Channel HERE or on our Facebook page HERE.
We are grateful to the Presiding Bishop for taking the time to share this message, as he faces his own serious health issues. He was only recently released from the hospital on August 23, and is scheduled for surgery soon. Continue to keep our Presiding Bishop in your prayers, for his full recovery.
