The Invitation to a Holy Lent

"Dear People of God: The first Christians observed with great devotion the days of our Lord's passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church to prepare for them by a season of penitence and fasting. This season of Lent provided a time in which converts to the faith were prepared for Holy Baptism. It was also a time when those who, because of notorious sins, had been separated from the body of the faithful were reconciled by penitence and forgiveness, and restored to the fellowship of the Church. Thereby, the whole congregation was put in mind of the message of pardon and absolution which all Christians continually have to renew their repentance and faith."

"I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading a meditating on God's Holy Word."

Our own Rev. Bob and Jean Steele donate part of their personal art collection to HoMA
(Honolulu Museum of Art)!
On February 4th, on KGMB’s “HI Now Weekender,” Dr. Robert Steele announced that he & his wife Jean are donating part of their African/American art collection of 55-prints (which they had collected over 50 years) to the Honolulu Museum of Arts. 
Their gift is in celebration of February’s Black History Month.

Open Gym on March 4, from 4-6 pm
 
On March 4, from 4-6 pm we will have the first (of what we hope to be many) Open Gym Night for youth and families. We are looking for volunteers to sign up to help with: 

  • signing in young people who will be dropped off by their parents (4th grade or older)
  • Overseeing activities in the gymnasium
  • Overseeing arts and crafts/board games in Glanz Hall
  • Providing light refreshments
  • Overseeing activities on Osco Field

Holy Nativity Church Bylaws:
An "Update"

On Sunday, March 5, we ask that members of the parish stay for a brief time after our service to review and vote to approve a slightly updated version of our Church Bylaws.
Over the last year, our Vestry and School Board have undertaken an effort to make sure that our church and school governing documents are in alignment. The vestry has unanimously recommended that the parish approve a few minor changes to the Church Bylaws, which require a majority vote of the parish (in addition to signatures of our diocesan bishop and chancellor, which we will request after the vote).

The proposed changes are summarized below. The full text of the Church Bylaws and the recommended changes will be available on both of the upcoming Sundays and in the parish office.

Recommended changes:

(1) A spelling correction.

(2) A sentence confirming that the governing documents for Holy Nativity School include the "Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of the school."

(3) A sentence confirming that certain, enumerated financial and legal efforts of Holy Nativity School must be undertaken according to the provisions of the school Bylaws and any resolutions of the School Board.

(4) A sentence confirming that "the Head of School shall supervise the faculty and staff of the school."

Letter Writing Campaign!
The Diocesan Task Force for Creation Care and Environmental Justice has joined hands with
Hawai`i Interfaith Power and Light to launch a national letter writing campaign, asking all faith communities and individuals of faith to write letters to President Joe Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to ask them to hasten the de-fueling and dismantling of the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility.
