This past Sunday, HNC Sunday School students and teachers assembled backpacks for the Backpack Program in conjunction with our Stewardship program, and a ministry of the
Diocese of Hawai'i.
HNS students and HNC Sunday School students helped Rev. Jenn bless them last week. The backpacks contain essentials like toiletries, snacks, and linens and are given to those being released from Halawa Correctional Center. The backpacks are given with compassion and kindness and are a tangible way to welcome those being released back into the community.
A volunteer is on hand every day at HCC to greet the released inmates, share Godʻs love with them, and give the gift of a backpack. If you are interested in becoming involved with this ministry, please contact Rev. Jenn (revjenn.hnc@gmail.com).
For more info go to:
https://www.episcopalhawaii.org/prison-ministry.html
As our own Stephen Noerper said,
Yours is a special ministry -- inspires the children and will comfort those leaving prison with light and the suggestion of abundance and renewal.

The backpacks were collected for distribution by Rev. Kaleo Patterson and Brandon of St. Stephen's in Wahiawa.

Our Holy Nativity "Plant-Whisperers"
Have you noticed that the Holy Nativity grounds are looking a little bit better, week by week? You may not know it, but we have a whole set of very quiet, faithful care-givers for many of our plants and gardens around the campus.
We want to say MAHALO to:
Ann McCrary, who has adopted the two large, potted bougainvillea at the church entrance on the main church lanai…
Kathy Otani, who faithfully waters the plants at the entryway to the church…
Deacon Bob Steele, whose Sunday morning spiritual practice includes raking the St. Francis Garden…
The Altar Guild, whose members regularly tends to the plants and flowers contributed by family and friends to the columbarium…
The Skye LeGros family, the Gayna & Sergio Brunelli family, the Zitz family, Rev. Jenn and Rev. Libby, for planting all the donated local plants in the front garden, the pre-K lanai garden, and the mauka courtyard...
AND
Holy Nativity School teachers Liz Cunningham and Shelly O'Brien who have been tending the garden behind the music room, and
Erin Zitz and Shelly O'Brien, who water the mauka courtyard gardens when their students are at PE.
Mahalo to all!
P.S. We may have forgotten someone; if you know of another plant-whisperer in our midst,
let us know!
It takes a village to make a garden, and we are blessed with many villagers!
