Welcome to Our New Interim Rector

THE REV. CANON KATHLEEN "KATE" CULLINANE

The Rev. Canon Kathleen J. Cullinane currently serves part-time as the Strategic Plan Manager for the Diocese of Hawai'i. Prior to coming to Holy Nativity she was the Interim Rector at St. Clement's, Honolulu. Previously she was the Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of San Joaquin. As Canon to the Ordinary she served as lead member of diocesan staff, supervised aided parishes and missions, served as a resource for congregational development, and served as transitional and ordination officer.

Kate was Associate Dean at Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis; a congregation diverse in race, income, sexuality and political opinion for over seven years. As associate dean she was responsible for all of mission and outreach beyond the walls of the Cathedral including local, diocesan, national and global mission projects, overseeing a budget of more than $1 million. As associate dean, she served on the cathedral's senior management team, directed programs, provided personnel supervision and served as primary administrative lead for cathedral clergy.

Before coming to Christ Church, Kate served 12 years as rector of St. Mary's, a primarily Japanese-American and Belizean congregation in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles. She has spent all of her 33 years of full-time professional ministry in multi-cultural contexts as religion teacher, hospital administrator, director of a homeless ministry, and executive director of a refugee resettlement agency. She also served as campus minister and HIV/AIDS education coordinator at Makerere University in Uganda.

Kate has served as the chair of the Social Responsibility in Investments Committee for the national Episcopal Church (she likes to joke that it was her job to keep the investment portfolio for the entire Episcopal Church squeaky clean) and as a member of the Commission on the State of the Church and on World Mission.

Kate has an M.Div. (Masters of Divinity) and an S.T.M. (Masters of Theology in Spiritual Direction) from The General Theological Seminary, New York, as well as Bachelor of Science degree in biology and theology from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles.

Kate loves anything that has to do with ethnic food. She has gone to cooking school in Thailand, Hungary and Bali. She is currently learning how to play Hawaiian lap steel guitar. She is hoping to go to cooking school in India and Italy in the near future. She enjoys cooking, entertaining, gardening and spending time with friends.

Meeting of the Holy Nativity Outreach Committee

It will take place after the 9:30 service.  We will gather at the far table on the left-hand side of the front of the  church. All are welcome. Please come with any ideas or  suggestions you may have for Outreach projects you may want to  head, or any ideas you would like to suggest our committee
undertake. Thank you. Please contact Wyn Aubrey-Child with any  questions regarding this ministry.

The Annual Queen Lili'uokalani Ho'kuikahi
This special event will be taking place on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at The Cathedral of St. Andrew at 7:00 PM. The date of the event represents a dark time in Hawaiian history when Queen Lili'uokalani was overthrown, but is now being recognized as a Day of Reconciliation and hope that focuses on the Queen's courage and conviction for non-violence. The   Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center (PJRC) has organized this annual event to "educate and advocate for justice and mercy for Na Kanaka Maoli and all the people of Hawai`i in the spirit of reconciliation." For more information contact Rev. Kaleo Patterson at (808) 330-3769.
