We are posting a brief day by day meditation from Forward Movement. It's a great way to start your morning! Just click on the website icon above.
We will be spending the next few Sundays with readings from Genesis about Abraham. All three of the Abrahamic faiths - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam - celebrate Abraham as the archetype or prime example of faith.
We tend to think of faith as belief, especially as belief in things that cannot be proved or defy logic. However, when we read the stories of Abraham we read about acts of faith not thoughts or theologies.
In the reading for this Sunday, God called Abraham - then Abram - to leave his homeland in what is now Iraq and to take his family and all his possessions to a new land. His obedience to that call is his first act of faith of many as the stories of him and his family unfold.
We see in Abraham a faith that is not about belief but is all about trust and willingness, trust in God to care for Abraham and his family and a willingness to follow wherever God leads and to do what God asks of him.
That is the faith that all of us who call ourselves children of Abraham are invited into.
Rev. Alison will be acting as guest reverend June 11th and June 18th.

GOODIE BAG STORIES
Earlier this year, HNC started a project to create "goodie bags" to give out to our brothers and sisters who do not have homes.
Some of our parishioners have stories and thoughts to share on their experience creating and giving out goodie bags in our community.
This week, Carol Ching shares:
My "tween" grand-daughters, Kirin and Kaya are still quite young, and have had very little experience with the homeless. So, when Rev Jenn invited us to stuff goodie bags for the homeless, we welcomed the task. But, the learning and awakening only grew as we went about finding the homeless. Kaya will forever remember the smiling faces and grateful words from the uncles and aunties we found at the Kahala bus stop, the gas station and at the Hawaii Kai 7-11.
