Holy Nativity Church’s Outreach Committee is proud to present Hopeathon Hawai’i, our first ever virtual game coding contest. Designed to inspire Middle and High school students residing in Hawai’i to code games stressing positive values such as faith, hope and love shared across the world, Hopeathon Hawai’i will be used to effectively illustrate these values home to our beloved Holy Nativity School students in a fun format online as well preK through Elementary students everywhere.
Scheduled to be held virtually starting on August 6th, our contest will end the weekend of December 5th at our gym. Contestants will register online starting July 6th to compete as individuals or teams for cash prizes of $1,500, $1,000, $750 or $500 for the top 4 winning games.
Social Media sites like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and our very own web page at www.hopeathonhawaii.org are currently under construction to create an air of excitement for potential contestants, sponsors and game judges. And with the help of Holy Nativity School’s very talented art teacher Jane Kim our students will soon have an appealing logo for us able to capture everyone’s attention!
We will be giving our Holy Nativity ohana first shot at lucrative and important volunteer opportunities right now before we branch out to the greater community for assistance. If you are able to help us right now by reviewing game rules for legal compliance, identifying great sponsors, or just plain have questions, feel free to contact Alison Kittle at firstname.lastname@example.org. Mahalo, and Get With the Game!

CORI MACKIE--PTO PRESIDENT
Cori Mackie is in her second year as President of the Parent Teacher Organization. That position makes her a non-voting member of our school’s board. Previously, Cori served as PTO vice president/president (2011-2013) and president (2019-21).
Cori was born and raised on Maui and came to Oahu to attend the University of Hawaii, where she majored in English. Then she “fell into” fashion and retail. This turn of events took her to New York where she worked for Ralph Lauren, setting the fashion direction for their retail stores; she also has worked for Gucci and Prada. Cori currently works at the Honolulu Museum of Art.
That exciting career was B.K., before kids, says Cori. Cori and husband Ken have two children. Ava, 14, started at our Holy Nativity School in pre-K and now attends Punahou. At HNS, she developed her interest in the arts and grew in her secure sense of herself. Max, 10, has been at HNS since kindergarten. He loves sports—especially water sports—and being with his friends.
Cori says that participating in the PTO allows her and others to help our school and to get to know each other’s families. She is grateful that HNS allows parents to be so involved and to create a community for themselves and their children. She appreciates her time in that community where she says she has made friends she will have throughout her life.
