Who's in the Pew?

(HNC usher Steve Soresi)

Steve Soresi works in media & education in Japan. His current NHK radio show, “Time Trial” enters its 14th season this April! His books on English language learning include two current best-sellers on Amazon with 14 titles in print, a total of 2 million sold and titles translated into Chinese and Korean.

Steve started his career as a production assistant at NBC news in Washington, DC, but decided to leave to teach English in Japan in 1990, telling friends “I’ll be back in a year or two….” After 3 years, he returned to news reporting, working on Guam at KOKU / Cable News. His broadcast of the 1994 earthquake aftermath earned him and his team an “Edward R Murrow Award” for Best Small Market Newscast. He went on to work briefly at CNN in Atlanta, but returned to Japan to earn a Master’s Degree at Waseda University, and later a PhD at Aoyama University.

After meeting his wife, Reihi, at University, the two reconnected at Narita Airport, where Reihi worked for Asiana Airlines. They married on Oahu in 2014, and will celebrate their 10th anniversary in July!

Their son, Canyon (9), and daughter, Melody (6) grew up in Japan, with their first language being Japanese. Since attending Koko Head Elementary School, both have picked up English quickly. Canyon recently quips “Seriously, Brah?!”… He has excelled at little league baseball leading him to declare, “I’m not a homework guy, I’m a sports guy.”

With the kids in school, Steve and Reihi are just beginning the Hawaii chapter of their life. Steve is exploring opportunities at local universities and media outlets on island as he weighs the best landline spot for his career. Steve, Reihi, Canyon, and Melody (pictured above) are grateful to have their spiritual landing spot secured among a lovely group of clergy & parishioners at Holy Nativity.

75th Anniversary Musings

As part of our 75th celebration, we reached out to families and individuals who have long-past ties to Holy Nativity. Many letters were sent far and wide, and we could not have been more pleased with the response.

In the coming weeks, in this section, we will share some of the comments we received, along with their generous donations.

To say I was surprised to receive your letter is an understatement! [...] I am sending this one-time donation to you to help. My father and mother are inurned there [HNC]. My mother painted the beautiful mural in the Children's Chapel [seen above]. God bless you and yours in all your positive, and kind efforts (so little of it these troubled days).

A Viking Invasion!

On Monday 3/11 a band of menacing Vikings raided the HNS campus, no one was safe from their gleeful marauding!!

Their leader, Dr. Cat Peterson, demanded nothing less than the most ferocious display from his hoard of 2nd graders!

This small but mighty crew has fled to other shores, but alas, we will remember their epic visit, and their menacing vessel!
