OnOctober 10th our community will be volunteering with Malama Maunalua(see sign up below). This non-profit organizes people to remove invasive algae from Maunalua Bay. This work is never complete because the algae continues growing. Despite this fact, the organization invites people to come and learn how to help day after day, year after year.
I find a lot of similarities between this work and our practice as followers of Jesus. Doing the work of Jesus is much like the persistent work of removing invasive algae. We learn what to do from those who have come before us. We practice patience and take care, there is no rush. We go together and share a big job with the work of many hands. Being a Christian is like this, too. Itʻs a daily practice of learning to listen for and hear Godʻs invitation to us. We learn from others who have done this work before. The work is never complete and we donʻt have to go it alone. We are accompanied by the Holy Spirit and joined by others who are trying to follow Godʻs call.
Whether you are able to be with us on October 10th or not, we are so happy you are along the journey with us as fellow followers of Christ, practicing the daily call to love God and love our neighbors.
Next week, Family Sunday October 9thwill be Samoan

White Sunday, also known in Samoan as "Lotu Tamaiti" or "Children's Service" is a notable day in the calendar of Samoan children. On this day, families and communities commemorate childhood by honoring the children in their midst.
There will be a special service & music.
All are welcome!
