"Til by turning, turning, we come 'round right"
As we begin the season of Lent, we are sharing Bible stories in worship that help us remember our intention to turn away from temptation and sin and toward God and goodness. In the story of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness, the Evil One takes Jesus up to the top of a high mountain, offering him "all the kingdoms of the world," if he will bow down and worship him. The Evil One points out that there is evil afoot in all earthy kingdoms, and that Jesus can have great power in those kingdoms, if only he will yield.
Jesus was tempted by earthly treasure and power, just as we are, in our earthly lives. But ultimately he reminds the Evil One that he will worship God, and God only. As the Evil One departed from Jesus, we are told, angels came and waited on him.
We concluded our chapel and pizza church worship last weekend with the Shaker Song, "Simple Gifts." As many of you know, it ends with the line above, "'Til by turning, turning, we come 'round right." Let's join one another in our Lenten intention to do just that.
Blessings of Lent to one and all,
Rev. Libby+

"Lent Madness"
Time!
It’s time again for Holy Nativity to participate in the annual Lent Madness. This unique Lenten devotion is a fun, engaging way to learn about saintly examples of people who followed Jesus in their own day.
The event began after Ash Wednesday. From the Church’s Calendar of Saints, 32 men and women are proposed to vie for the
Golden Halo through a tournament-like single elimination bracket.
(Note: This year’s list even includes a saint from Hawaii!)
By SUBSCRIBING at https://www.lentmadness.org
you will initially be provided with biographical information to start voting in the first round. Subsequent rounds evolve as the field narrows toward selecting the winner of the coveted golden halo.

'Gal'entine's Day
We celebrated our Thrift Shop “Gals” with coffee + tea, and some festive pastries. We played some Valentine’s Day trivia, spent some quality bonding time, and got to know each other, a bit better.
Good Fun -- can’t wait for the next one!

Why don't we say "alleluia" during Lent?
Lent has been kept for centuries as a time of simplicity and solemnity. Churches are traditionally decorated more simply and services are more somber as we prepare for Good Friday, so that we will appreciate the joyful celebrations of Easter all the more.
In keeping with this mood, the word "alleluia" (a joyful shout of praise) is not said or sung again from Ash Wednesday until the first celebrations of Easter. It’s traditional to end services of Shrove Tuesday with "alleluia" before laying it aside for the forty days of Lent.
Now you know! : )
