The Light of the World

On February 2nd the church celebrates Candlemas or The Feast of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.

When Jesus was eight days old, the gospel of Luke tells us, his parents brought him to the temple to dedicate him to God. There was a man in the temple named Simeon who had been told by God that he would not die before he saw the Messiah. On that day in the temple, Simeon saw Mary and Joseph carrying Jesus and he realized that Jesus was the Messiah he had been waiting for. He took the baby in his arms and declared to all who could hear that this was the Messiah, the light that had come from God into to save the world.

Traditionally, on this day, people bring candles to the church for a blessing as a sign that Jesus Christ came to be the

Light of the World.

At Pizza Church (above) on Sunday January 25 we prepared for Candlemas by making our own candles during the service and blessing them. Mahalo nui loa to Zoe and Dan Muenzer for bringing this craft to our Pizza

Church community.

On January 29 at our All School Chapel, our first graders led the service and shared the story of The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple with us, and sang the son “Simeon” written by Dr. Cat. It was a beautiful service in celebration of Jesus, The Light of the World.

Finger Food Sunday 2/8

Fun & Easy!

~Family Sunday~

With Tusi and Chandi away this Sunday, we are asking that congregants please bring easy to serve, easy to eat, easy to clean up offerings to coffee-hour fellowship time.

Bring on the tooth-pick brigade! Channel those canapes! One bite delights! Sweets that

are neat! You get the idea -- have fun with it!

The kitchen will not be available (except for coffee service set up), so please use disposable containers and your own serving utensils (as needed) and please take home your dishes with you to wash.

Mahalo all!
