It’s Still Easter!
A message from
Rev. Alison
Until a Rev. Jenn pointed it out, I had not realized that the Easter season is longer than Lent. There are historical reasons for that I am sure, but a simple reason is that it takes that long for us to embrace and develop faith in the meaning of Easter, of the significance and reality of the appearances and continuing presence of the risen Christ.
Actually, that takes a lifetime at least. Probably in all times, but it seems particularly true in these times, it is difficult to believe that in Christ sin and death have been conquered, that love wins, and that it has more power than hate. We see sin and death all over, from rising authoritarianism, to pervasive corruption, to state sanctioned ethnic cleansing, to outright genocide, to a mindless greed that risks the future of the planet.
In the midst of all of that, the Roman Catholic Church elected a Pope with an Easter vision, skilled at speaking hard truths with love and clarity, with a capacity to lead us all in the way of Jesus.
We who claim the risen Christ as our expression of the divine have a responsibility to follow the leadership of Pope Leo XIV, not as Roman Catholics particularly but as followers of Jesus, to proclaim the Love of Christ in word and deed even when it is hard and scary, and especially when we have trouble believing it ourselves. We are called to be brave.
I believe it is no accident that we are beginning a discussion of Bishop Marianne Budde’s book, “How We Learn to be Brave." It ‘s not too late to pick up a copy of the book in the church office and join the group this Sunday at 10:45 in the Monteiro Chapel. We are just beginning discussing the book.
Join us as we share together how we
have been, are, and can be brave.

Mother's Day / Family Sunday Service 5/11
Mother's Day at Holy Nativity was filled with wonderful youth and keiki participation.
Dr. Cat led the Holy Nativity Singers, Rev. Libby taught our youth who "sets and clears" our altar table for Eucharist each week (it's the Altar Guild!) and Rev. Jenn invited our keiki and youth into leadership during the other parts of the service, including the distribution of flowers to all women, who give care and love to others throughout
their lives.
Fellowship followed with a great Bagel Brunch and sweet treats.
A full and happy day!
