Convention 57

Oct 24 - 25,

Huli ka lima i lalo

Turning our hands to the ʻāina

The First day, Education Day was dedicated to action, both at ‘Iolani School and out in the community.

Four groups went to work at four off-campus sites: Reppun Farm, Ka Papa Lo’i o Kānewai,

Ulupō Heiau, and Hoʻoulu ʻĀina in Kalihi Valley.

Attendees turned their hands to the earth

(huli ka lima i lalo) to reconnect to Godʻs Creation.

Rev. Libby (above) got in the loʻi at Reppun Farm to learn first-hand about kalo!

Beverly Toomey (in the hat) worked on the Iolani School campus at the worm composting activity.

Some thoughts from our Delegates.

Christine Donnelly

I attended the convention on Saturday and what stood out for me was the collegial atmosphere as church leaders and church members discussed important issues on which not everyone agrees. The questions and responses were instructive and insightful, and I also learned quite a bit about Robert's Rules of Order. Civil discourse in action! It was very interesting to get a glimpse of the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep the Diocese and its community of churches running smoothly.

Tusi Mayer

This was my first time attending the convention as a delegate. The first day of the convention was a day dedicated to activities related to the 'aina.

My experience at the Reppun Farms in Waiahole was amazing. It was a humbling experience to meet with the Reppun family and hear their stories. What an amazing family; they are truly connected and are good stewards of the land and all that comes from the land. You can definitely feel the "mana" from the land, it's truly God's gift for us to manage, with respect and honor.

The second day was dedicated to the policies, rules, regulation and management of Diocese and churches of Hawaii. It's amazing to witness and participate as a voting delegate to the resolutions written by those working tirelessly behind the scene to ensure God's work lives on.

It was also exciting to meet and greet members of churches from the neighbor islands, Oahu, Guam and Saipan. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to be a delegate and I welcome the opportunity to do it again.

Beverly Toomey

This was my second convention. It was fun and educational. We made beautiful woven ti-leaf lei for each parish. Pillow making was fun too!

I chose to make cardboard mulch for worms, soft dirt for worms and watch worms (special) eat any garbage and make dirt. What a gift to recycle everything! Left over paper etc.

Educational for all ages!

This was a great Convention! The second day went well. Other proposals were voted on. Electronic voting made things quicker!

We got out early!

All Saints Day

Columbarium Clean-Up

This Sunday, Nov. 2nd.

After church service

All parishioners are invited to join us for a special clean-up of the columbarium niche space immediately following the church service on Sunday, November 2.

We will be polishing the niche plaques, cleaning the grounds, and placing flowers and potted plants This event provides an opportunity for our community to come together in honor of All Saints Day and care for this sacred space.

We encourage parishioners to bring flowers or a potted plant to place in the columbarium as part of the clean-up. Adding fresh flowers will help beautify the space and honor the memory of loved ones.

Attire

To make it easier to participate in the clean-up activities, you are welcome to wear working

clothes to church. Gloves may be helpful. All cleaning supplies will be provided.

Purpose

Your help will ensure that the columbarium remains a respectful and beautiful place of remembrance for all members of our community.

Contact Information

If you have any questions about the event, please contact Tusi Mayer at (808) 741-3792, email: tusit578@gmail.com or the church office.

Thank you in advance for your support

and participation!
