WEST FRONT STREET BRIDGE TO OPEN TODAY

FRIDAY, JULY 1, 2022

The West Front Street bridge will open to vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic at the end of day, Friday, July 1st!

The West Front Street bridge project began September 17, 2021 and included bridge removal and replacement, and an extension of a watermain. Vehicular parking was maintained along the bridge on the north and south sides. Amenities include expansion of the sidewalk width with a traditional streetscape, pedestrian scale lighting, and street trees. Aesthetic treatments on the end walls and a fascia to resemble an arch are also incorporated. Minor work on the bridge is anticipated that may disrupt traffic in the future.

Through careful planning, the City of Traverse City began major bridgework throughout the City in June 2021. The infrastructure improvements include the bridges on Park Street, S. Cass Street, E. Eighth Street, and W. Front Street. Rehabilitation work on the S. Union Street and N. Cass Street bridges is anticipated for 2023.

TAX BILLS

Summer tax bills have been sent to City taxpayers as of July 1, 2022. Tax bills are due Monday, August 1, 2022.

The City has launched a new payment gateway, InvoiceCloud, that will make online payment easier than ever!

As of noon on July 1, 2022, tax bill payment options will be accepted online through InvoiceCloud and will include credit card, Venmo, Apple Pay, Pay Pal, Google Pay, and E-Check. 

Customers can create an account to receive future notifications, including text notifications, on when tax bills are issued and due.

Absentee ballots for the Tuesday, Aug. 2 statewide primary election are now available at your City Clerk's Office. The first mailing has been completed for those who currently have requested an Absentee Ballot via application.

The August 2, 2022 election is a statewide primary and used to choose your candidates for the general election in November. 

Voters should be aware that a statewide primary election does not allow for voting of candidates in opposite political parties, or in other words, only one side of the ballot can be voted. Please read carefully when reviewing your ballot to avoid errors.

STOP THE SPREAD OF OAK WILT

In 2011, the City passed a local ordinance that prohibits pruning oak tress from April through  November to  protect oak trees and help prevent oak wilt disease.

Oak wilt is a serious pest of local importance. The disease is introduced to oak trees via fresh wounds in the tree. As oak trees often graft roots beneath the soil, one infested tree can pass the disease to other healthy trees. Breaking these root grafts and removing infested trees is critical to saving nearby oaks. 

Oak wilt is well-established across much of the Michigan oak landscape. Help save the trees by not pruning between April and November!

A DREAM COME TRUE

THE LOOP IS OPEN!

Today, TART Trails, the City of Traverse City, Charter Township of Garfield, Grand Traverse County, and other project partners are celebrating the official opening of the fully constructed Boardman Lake Loop Trail.

Community members and visitors can now enjoy a 4+ mile Loop around the perimeter of the Boardman Lake, a community project more than 30 years in the making. From breaking ground last fall on the final section, this beautiful and highly anticipated Loop is the product of meaningful, high impact collaboration, years of support, gumption, and hard work from many facets of the community.

Thanks to the passion and persistence of countless individuals and trail project partners, the Loop is now a reality and serves as the crown jewel and centerpiece of the TART Trails network. We are thrilled to share in this monumental moment with the community. Completing the Boardman Lake Loop Trail has been a top community priority on the minds of many community members and public figures as it serves as a critical corridor for non-motorized transportation and recreation.
