ACCESSIBLE HOUSING FOR ALL

RUTH PARK DEVELOPMENT OPENS

In a significant stride toward inclusive housing, the City approved a PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) arrangement for the Ruth Park housing development, situated at 520 Wellington Street, which recently opened to residents.

The Ruth Park community offers 58 residences comprising one, two, and three-bedroom units tailored for singles, families, and seniors. Crucially, these homes cater to individuals earning within the 30% to 80% range of the area median income, equating to approximately $26,970 to $71,920 annually for a family of four. The rental rates span from $355 to $1,350, ensuring affordability within a spectrum of needs. Moreover, the development accepts Section 8, expanding opportunities for individuals requiring such assistance. The community ethos of Ruth Park extends beyond mere housing. Its design incorporates thoughtfully curated indoor and outdoor common areas, fostering a sense of belonging and interaction among residents. These shared spaces are integral to cultivating a supportive and vibrant community atmosphere.

Emphasizing sustainability, Ruth Park is pursuing LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council, highlighting its commitment to environmentally friendly practices.

The approval and realization of the Ruth Park housing development signify a concerted effort by the City to work with area partners to address the critical need for inclusive housing. Since 2019, the City has approved the following PILOT arrangements.

Michigan now has some of the best climate laws in the country!

Senate Bill 271 establishes a 100% clean energy standard for Michigan. By 2040, Michigan will produce all its energy from clean sources. By 2030, Michigan will produce 50% of its energy from renewable sources and 60% from renewables by 2035. The new clean energy standard will protect Michigan’s air, land, and water for future generations. It will drive down costs for consumers while reducing the state’s reliance on foreign fuel and create tens of thousands of good-paying jobs along the way.
