The Beacon Article Recap

In Case You Missed It...

Since we're already almost halfway through the year, can you believe it? We thought we'd take this opportunity to recap our 2025 articles in case you missed any of them or are new to The Beacon.

Every two months, we share an original article written by our title counsel, Brad Surles, that is informative and applicable to current title questions we encounter, either from you, our customers, or real-world title issues we've worked through.

You can click each image above to access the article, or browse our website to find all of our articles in one place. Thank you for reading, and we hope these articles help answer some of your burning title questions.

Introducing: Feeding Charlotte

We want to introduce you to Feeding Charlotte, a wonderful local non-profit that Harbor City Title is honored to partner with beginning in 2026.

Feeding Charlotte's mission is to "rescue food" from restaurants and organizations that would otherwise become waste, and get it in the hands and mouths of people who need it the most in our community.

Brad, Lisa and Summer had the privilege of participating in their annual food packing event, Feeding Charlotte Feeds 2026, where we packed over 5000 boxed lunches.

To learn more about Feeding Charlotte and all that they do, please check them out HERE.

Meet the Team:

Logan Marker, Residential Assistant

Logan recently joined the Harbor City Title Residential Team in a production capacity. She assists abstractors in locating prior policies and works with the team to deliver final policies to buyers and lenders. Logan is also a college student, working to obtain her business degree at Stanly Community College.

Let's Get to Know Logan

What is your favorite musician/band, book or movie?

Right now my favorite movie is Clueless.

What is your Team Member "style" or "superpower”?

My superpower is being a “policy detective.” I love trying to locate the more difficult prior policies and returning them as quickly as possible!

What is a day in the life of Logan like?

Wake up and I’ve been trying to go for a walk in the mornings, then get ready and head to Charlotte. Work, work, work – lunch at 12:30!– work work work. Drive home, clean up my house a little, probably get dinner with my boyfriend, then read and go to sleep!

Fun fact: On the weekends I own/run a small independent bookshop.

What is your favorite office snack or drink?

I’ve been on a matcha kick recently - plain iced matcha with sweet cream cold foam.

A Quote or mantra you live by?

Only light can drive out the darkness.

What's on your desk?

What ISN’T on my desk haha! Laptop, docking station, phone charger, water bottle (and a mason jar to fill with water if I forget mine), ALL the paper clips and binder clips, two different types of stamps, sticky notes, a pen holder that also says the date and month, a mug (that is conveniently shaped like the rat from Ratatouille), another pen holder, stapler, letter opener, candle (that is just there for looks for some reason), and of course - a small stuffed giraffe that I stole from my moms desk. His name is Stumpy!

Did You Know?

Half a Million Cats Went to War?

The Great War was such a difficult time, some soldiers sought out the assistance and comfort of four-legged friends - including cats who were used in the trenches to boost morale. Dogs, homing pigeons, foxes, goats, lion cubs, and even raccoons also served their countries as pets and mascots throughout the “war to end all wars,” and some even carried out official duties. Cats did a bit of both, particularly a cat named, Simon...
