Continued Safety Precautions

We have been consistently monitoring the health of our residents and staff this week with in-person screenings, personal protection equipment, and social distancing standards. There has been a lot of information in the news about when to wear a mask and the guidelines for wearing one. Current data suggests person-to-person transmission most commonly happens during close exposure to a person infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, primarily via respiratory droplets produced when the infected person speaks, coughs, or sneezes. Droplets can land in the mouths, noses, or eyes of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs of those within close proximity. A face mask will help protect the spread of germs between individuals.

All of our staff will be wearing facemasks every time they are in the facility. Due to anticipated shortages, medical face masks at Beacon Hill will be prioritized for healthcare personnel involved in direct patient care and for patients with symptoms of COVID-19. Everyone else will wear cloth masks.

We are also asking all residents to wear a cloth mask (or other fabric face covering) any time they are not inside their apartment. That includes, but not limited to: walking to get the mail, visiting the gym, or leaving/entering the community. Proper handwashing should be performed before and after touching, or adjusting a face mask or cloth face covering.

Care of your cloth mask:
  • Change the covering if it becomes soiled, damp, or hard to breathe through
  • Launder the covering daily with hot water and soap
  • Perform hand hygiene before and after touching or adjusting the covering
  • Filters must be replaced daily, or when soiled, damp, or hard to breathe through

Words of Encouragement from our Chaplain Travis

What do we do when we are thrust into solitude, when we are so used to busy lives? Travis has some words of wisdom to grant yourself patience and grace while we all adjust to a new daily life. Read the whole blog here.

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10th

This year, to celebrate all the residents who are mothers and grandmothers, we're asking each family to please submit one of your favorite photos with your resident, along with one sentence message. We'll be sharing these throughout the community in both 1919 and 1845, and on our website.
In case you missed it!

This week we've implemented some additional precautions as well as some new and fun entertainment options for residents.

Dining: Wednesday, April 8th, Beacon Hill started serving residents in their own rooms for all three meals. We adjusted the meal delivery schedule in order to rotate dinner times for residents.

Ice Cream Tuesday: Dining staff walked the wings this week passing out ice cream treats to our 1919 Residents.

Groceries: We also have increased the ability to provide you with personal grocery shopping. Contact the concierge via phone at 616.608.8236 or email [email protected]  to make arrangements!

Book Cart: Looking for some new books or want to try a new movie? Our book cart will be making rounds during our weekly screenings. Each book and DVD will be sanitized before and after each use.

Employee Meals: We have two more chefs taking the evening shift to prepare take-home meals for our employees every day. Meals are available in the break rooms.

Staying connected with others

  • Zoom, Skype and FaceTime are a great way to stay in touch with family and friends.

  • Send a virtual “hello” to residents and Beacon Hill staff by either recording a short video on your phone or tablet, or taking a selfie holding up a sign with a friendly message. These will then be posted on our Lifting our Spirit Activities page. Submit your photos or videos to [email protected]

As always, thank you to everyone for making Beacon Hill a safe, healthy and wonderful place for our residents to live.
