Friends,
From Easter morning until now, we’ve heard stories of followers of Jesus recognizing him when he speaks their name, as he did with Mary at the Tomb, or calls them as he does with the sheep in the sheepfold. Scripture never defines for us why it is that Jesus’ voice rather than his appearance is what allows certain followers to recognize him. But it is clear that there is something tender, intimate, loving in his voice that separates his voice from all the other voices these followers hear.
The same can be said for the voice of a mother. A mother’s voice is one of first voices a person hears. While it takes a bit for the newborn to recognize its mother’s voice, once the newborn does the child perks up every time s/he hears their mother’s voice. There is a quality in her voice that conveys safety, intimacy, love that no other voice does.
Happy Mother’s Day!
My Mother’s Voice
by r. A. bentinck
There is no sweeter sound
Than hearing my mother
Calling my name.
My mother’s voice is a voice of love
It comforts and reassures me
And it’s a voice that I always want to hear.
When things are tough and I’m feeling blue,
My mother’s voice is like a ray of sunshine
That makes everything seem okay.
No matter how bad things might seem,
My mother’s voice will always
Comfort and reassure me.
There’s nothing like
The sound of mother’s voice
It fills my heart with so much joy
I never doubt her love, no matter what
For when I hear her voice,
I know it’s the voice of love.
Peace,
Rev. Tim
