BHS Recognizes Two STAR Students
The Milledgeville/Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce held its annual STAR Student and STAR Teacher Ceremony on Thursday, February 3rd.
Congratulations to Baldwin High School STAR Students Diana Cazacu and Johnny Pulliam who were both recognized during the STAR Student Annual Luncheon.
Diana and Johnny each selected one educator as their STAR Teacher, someone who has significantly influenced their academic achievement. Baldwin’s Cazacu selected Jessica Thompson while Pulliam chose Damita Jones. The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber is the proud sponsoring organization of the STAR program. For 36 years, they have been able to recognize and honor remarkable students and their teachers in Baldwin County. The event was also sponsored by the Milledgeville Exchange Club and the Rotary Club of Milledgeville.
Diana Cazacu has been active in 4-H for nearly eight years and has become active in Theatre while attending BHS. Her endeavors have not only been impressive at the high school level but also in college as a dual enrollment student. She has received the Dean’s Excellence and Merit scholarships while attending GCSU. Cazacu plans on attending either Georgia College & State University or the University of Georgia while BHS's co-STAR student Johnny Pulliam has been named to the Honor Roll while in high school and calls his father his biggest motivator. So much so, that Pulliam plans on attending Georgia College & State University to major in nursing just as his father did.
The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is sponsored, administered and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and the PAGE Foundation. Since its creation, the STAR program has honored nearly 28,000 students and the teachers they have selected as the most influential to their academic achievement. High school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average to qualify for STAR nomination. Every accredited high school in Georgia is eligible to participate in this preeminent student/teacher academic recognition.

BHS Theatre Performs at ThesCon
The BHS Theatre Department had an amazing weekend at ThesCon 2022. Their award-winning production of “Tuck Everlasting” ran for the final time and had students represent in 8 out of the 9 event categories.
In the Improv! Faceoff, three students (Eli Johnson, Toler Thompson, and Robinson York) made it to the final round, and Robinson York was named standout Improv performer overall.
BHS was one of the only three schools selected to perform in the Freestyle event, where 8 students (Matthias Bell, Nadia Cazacu, Alicia Cuyler, Lexia Johnson, Damont Holsey, Lecovian Thomas, Alyssa Sinyard, and Toler Thompson) performed in the 15-minute mini-musical 21 Chump Street.
Baldwin submitted three Thespy events that all received stellar feedback.
Robinson York's monologue performance received an overall superior and a callback for a chance to perform in the conference closing ceremonies. Nick Ryan's short film "The Morning Argument" was selected for screening at the Film Fest event, and he participated in a short talk-back with audiences at the event. Seaver York participated in the junior college auditions for technical theatre tracks, and received callbacks from several schools after her presentation.
Students participated in the inaugural GA Thespians Quiz Bowl event after passing the preliminaries back in January. They made it to the final round at the conference and held their own against several other schools. Baldwin was runner-up for this event.

Midways Hills Primary Future Engineers
Two of Midway Hills Primary's future engineers had the opportunity to visit the MakerSpace room. These two engineers took on the challenge of assembling a Lego Education Motion Prime Kit. They were able to work together, draw a blueprint and use their critical thinking skills to solve the problem without any assistance. MHP students are learning how to think like engineers in the STEAM lab and MakerSpace Room. They are learning how to think outside the box and solve real-world problems. The next group of engineers will be working on completing the WeDo 2.0 Lego education “Milo’s Tilt Sensor” kit. With STEAM, there are no limits but possibilities. Mrs.Veal and the Midway Hills Primary engineers would like to thank Dr. Price for donating the Motion Prime kit.

National School Counselors Week
National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), was February 7-11, 2022. The purpose of National School Counseling Week is to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors and the tremendous impact they have on helping students achieve school success. The Theme this year is “School Counseling: Better Together”. School counselors are an integral part of the Baldwin County School District. Our amazing group of school counselors offer advice to students and work with them to remove barriers. They have provided much-needed support to our students, staff, and parents throughout this pandemic. Baldwin County school counselors are actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents. Our school counselors continually work in a partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world, especially during the ongoing pandemic. They also focus on positive ways to enhance students’ social/personal, educational, and career development. Most importantly, our school counselors work with teachers, administrators, and support staff to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic, and optimistic aspirations for themselves.
