Phase One of the Early Learning Center Splash Pad
|
|
The Baldwin County School District announced in April of 2021 the construction of a new splash pad at the Early Learning Center, but due to the weather and COVID-19, the construction was delayed. We are excited to report that construction has started with a completion date of November 2021.
A splash pad is an outdoor recreation area for children that allows for water play in little to no standing water, keeping the threat of drowning to a minimum. Splash pads often feature spray nozzles coming out of the ground and shower attachments that release water from above. They are seen as ways to introduce children to the water before they swim in a pool or larger body of water. The students can cool off, have fun, and be safe. Stay tuned to upcoming news on phase two of the splash pad project.

We are so proud of Mr. Tommy Reeves, Maintenance and Facilities, for having his artwork exhibited at Allied Arts. Mr. Reeves stated that he has always been one to whittle since he was a young boy. His grandfather was always carving on a stick for the kids in the family, but it wasn't until 2000 that he began carving on a higher level when his brother bought a carving mallet and wood carving chisels for him. From that point, he has challenged himself to create any and all types of carvings. All carved pieces are hand-carved, and he does not create duplicate pieces. He hopes people who have some of his artwork enjoy it as much as he has enjoyed creating it.

Students Host a Publishing Party
|
|
Students at Midway Hills Academy published their first writing piece and ended the week with a Publishing Party. They also took a gallery walk to read each other's writing, gave compliments to classmates, and enjoyed a treat while classmates read their stories aloud. At the end of the activity, students completed Writer's Reflection on what they liked about their piece, what was difficult, and ways they can make their next writing piece even better.

The Montessori Class has been very busy. Students have focused on practical life skills and healthy habits in the kitchen were discussed. They made sour patch grapes, recipe cards and wrote food reviews. Students took a trip to the chicken coop for their Zoology studies and talked about chicken behaviors, raising chickens, and collecting eggs.

Ms. Eidson's Montessori class enjoyed "Fun Fruit Friday!" They made fruit rainbows out of strawberries, grapes, oranges, lemons, blueberries, and blackberries. The students have been discussing eating healthy and how fruit is produced through flowering plants. They also counted our fruit in the rainbows and came up with different describing words for each of the fruits. Students did a fantastic job listening and following directions and working with one another! It was a yummy, fun day!

Never worry about where your child's bus is ever again! Thanks to the new and innovative technology that the Baldwin County School District has invested in. As a result, parents of our students can now get real-time updates of their child's bus location through the MyStop app, which is available for download in the iTunes or Android marketplaces.
MyStop provides parents, and parents only, a live look at their child's bus while in transit using GPS technology. Parents can see the exact location of the bus as it's moving along its route and can even provide an estimated time of arrival.
